1. "End of an era ..."

Got the October LBQ in the mail and was sad to learn that this issue is the very last one. The Lizzie Borden Quarterly is closing down.
A farewell editorial by Maynard F. Bertolet holds out a glimmer of hope that it could resume publication sometime in the future with talk of a possible feasibility study in a year. But at this point, the presses have stopped and the LBQ is no more.
We will miss a valuable resource.
Thanks, Diana. I haven't gotten my LBQ yet. Yup - the end of an era.
What a disappointment to see it come to an end. But did you get a partial refund for the remaining part of your subscription? I just paid $30 a few months ago for a two-year subscription, and I've only gotten one issue out of it.
Do we celebrate the LBQ-As-Was?
Or hang our heads, dejected?
It was a wonderful publication!
Thanks, Diana.
It is a sad day indeed. I shall miss waiting for it's arrival to see what new Lizzie and Fall River material surfaced.
Public thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bertolet and the staff for their efforts in putting out a unique magazine. They deserve our thanks.
Yes Absolutely Cheers to Mr. & Mrs. Bertolet!
Rats! I never even got to see one! Hopefully they will resume printing in the future so that I can finally peruse this publication.
In a letter from the publisher included in the issue is the following regarding refunds:
"As we cease publication, we want you to know that we are working on an orderly process for reimbursing susbscribers for however many issues remain in their subscriptions."
That's signed by Mrs. Gabriela Schalow Adler, the publisher.
On the same page an Editor's note follows:
"Following the mailing of the current issue a list of subscribers with credit balances will be presented to Dr. Adler. It will show the exact prorated amount due. The refund checks will be issued by Bristol Community College."
A local amateur computer group went to I-net publication almost two years ago. Same reason: costs (which means declining membership).
Yeah, thanks Harry. I just got my copy of the LBQ today and read the part about the refund checks myself.
Diana, that's exactly the phrase I thought of just now after paging through the very last issue of the LBQ. I just feel fortunate to have been a long-time subscriber, so I've got plenty of issues for my Borden collection. I'm also very pleased to have had a letter published that once. Many thanks to the Bertolets, to Professors Ryckebusch and Adler, and to all the distinguished contributors, past and present, for a very special publication. I'd always get a tingle of anticipation when I'd unlock the mailbox and see that familiar front (or even back!) page, and I'd hate to read the new issue too quickly, 'cause then I'd have to wait months for the next! I'm a little glum that the pictures of the pear tree out front of the Borden house I took a few years ago for a projected article by William will never grace a copy of the LBQ!
Next year...THE HATCHET! And I've just subscribed.
