That reminded me of my old job as Town Clerk, typing those tax books!
What is your point Gramma, just that there are a lot of Almys, Bordens, Anthonys etc in Portsmouth too? Or were we supposed to be
catching something?

As well as Cook, Fish, Durfee, Chase, Hathaway, etc.
Yup, there is family here. It was not like a large city is now where names don't necessarily mean anything. Back then, if you were of the same name there was a much higher degree of probability you were related. Actually, if you go to this site you can get to the 1892 list as well. But the Bordens came up from Portsmouth originally, as did many other of the families involved in the Lizzie case.Fall River was once a part of RI and these families moved "up river". This is a tool anyone can use to trace families and their movements.
