Lizzie paid for grand tour w/inheritance from mother?

Post by MaryM »

I decided to watch the Elizabeth Montgomery movie last night, as I hadn’t seen it since it aired in the mid seventies. In it they claim Lizzie paid for her grand tour with an inheritance from her mother as well as Emma giving her some of hers. The Lizzie Borden programs and discussions I have watched and read this past weekend credits Andrew with paying for it. Anyone knowing who paid for her trip?

Mary - no one knows how the trip was financed. Lizzie received an allowance from Andrew that averaged around $200 per year and I've seen folks try to back into how many years of this allowance it would have taken to pay for the long Europe trip.

Based on this math problem, most assume Andrew must have financed it. But that is not definitive.

Regarding Lizzie's biological mother, there is no evidence that Sarah left any type of estate to either sister or even had an estate to share.
