Happy Independence Day!

Such a weekend we have had and more to come tonight!

We are having a weekend house party. Some people are staying here and others come each day. We have cooked massive amounts of grilled foods, swam endless miles in the pool, listened to music and had champagne and other things to drink. Mon Dieu...

Last night Thayne and his brother entertained us with a professional quality fireworks display that lasted over an hour. Alax made a mix-cd of patriotic songs and it was the perfect compliment.

Tonight is the final big picnic/BBQ and then into town for the fireworks display where Alax will sing a solo from the grandstand in the main park before the display. He is to sing "God Bless America" in English and in French. I am eager to hear him. They sell wonderful Root beer floats in the park to help pay for the fireworks and we always have (at least) one each!

Although I am not a citizen of the USA I am very proud to live here and raise my family in such a wonderful place. I get emotional when I see the fireworks and hear the National Anthem.

Thankfully the weather has been decent this entire weekend. Not so hot and humid and cool breezes to enjoy while sitting on the patio.

Happy Birthday America.

The only American President with a Fourth of July birthday was Calvin Coolidge, born in Plymouth, Vermont, on July 4, 1872. A graduate of Amherst College, Coolidge resided in Northampton, Massachusetts, for most of his adult life. Calvin Coolidge served as Governor of Massachusetts, Vice President of the United States, and was President at the time of the deaths of Lizzie Borden and Emma Borden in 1927.

You threw me for a loop for a second and then I realized my mistake in thought:
That 2 Presidents died on July 4th (not born- as you point out):
"He [John Adams] died July 4, 1826, in Braintree, Norflok, Mass. Thomas Jefferson also died that day, a few hours before Adams."

Hi Kat! James Monroe, the fifth U.S. president, also died on July 4th, but in 1831, five years after Adams and Jefferson.

HAPPY 4th of JULY!!

I just got home a little while ago. I've been gone for the better part of the day. I was at a Fourth of July party at my aunt's house. I had a really good time. My family definitely has fun when we get together. I laughed so hard today. I ate too much, got doused with a water hose as a prank ( TWICE lol), it was a blast. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday as much as I did!

I went to my fiance's family barbecue today, oy, so many people and names to remember! But the good thing is that the general consensus was that they all liked me and approved of us as a couple! We then had another barbecue with friends for dinner and watched fireworks from their balcony, it was wonderful!

Happy 4th of July all!

Susan, remember nothing can kill a relationship
faster than the damn family. On July 4 my dog Holly got away from me because she was so freaked out from the fireworks, she ran away. The
whole neighborhood joined in to get her back for me, whew, we were out there a few hours, she had run far away. She really freaked out on the fireworks, as she does as any sky noises, like thunder. Good Ending, she came home safe and sound. I hope your relationship is safe and sound Susan, watch out for the sisters, they are the worst critics. (I know because I am one) My beloved brother has yet another girlfriend, OYE.

Good to hear that Holly made it home, safe and sound. I was comforting one of my sweetie's dogs, she was just shaking and whining and hiding behind my chair during the fireworks. I had to pick her up and cuddle her in my lap until she quieted down, fireworks must be the dog equivalent of armageddon.

My fiance only has step-siblings, both much older, his stepsister and I get along as thick as thieves! Shes happy to see him happy and she shares stories about my honey when he was a little boy, you know, those embarrassing things like fingerpainting the walls with his diaper! They really are a loving family, despite their quirks and differences, they work as a unit, I'll be happy and proud to call them my inlaws. I actually found his friends to be my toughest audience to date, but, I won them over with flying colors.

Families can be tough...

I do not feel I have anything in common with my inlaws. Thayne and my familes could not be any more different...
