OY what a dumb day I had today.
It is my birthday tomorrow and I am due to renew my drivers license and my tag.
I haven't had to go in person for a picture and a hearing and eye test for 18 years! Well, I actually fixed my hair, put on makeup- tried on a couple of outfits (because I may look like that for the next 18 years)- and went down to the license bureau- got every red light, every stop sign- they put in brick roads in my back way I go and my jaw was just juddering all the way. My shocks are 10 years old. No a/c of course, trying to stay cool at least as long as my photo. When I got there they were closed on Mondays!
Driving back I thought I would get my hair cut and stopped by my salon and it was closed! I hadn't heard much news today- was beginning to think - what? I don't know- I just thought I had really poor timing today!
On the way home I ended up behind the ice cream man! 17 mph. Double yellow lines- NEW double yellow lines....
And no I didn't want any ice cream.

Even if I did, how does one flag down the ice cream man from behind?

I'm sorry, Kat, what a crummy way to start off your birthday! Ugh, a mandatory Motor Vehicles visit. And the heat always makes things feel worse. Do you have anything neat planned for your special day? I hope so, you deserve it!

All the barber shops here close on Mondays. And at least my hairdresser's does as well. They work Saturdays, so take Mondays off (and Sundays). With the barbers here, you gotta close on Mondays because everybody else does and they consider it unfair competition. I think the chain salons may not close on Mondays. When I broke my knee in FR, I needed to find some place to wash my hair on a Sunday. Everyone was closed except something like Bo Ricks' or Hair One - one of those.

Here in Maryland we have to get our license renewed every 4 years, plus a new picture for our license. No matter how nice your hair, makeup and outfit look, they always manage to make your picture look like dogcrap. I know that I don't really look THAT bad. Last time the lady who took the pics was not busy and was agreeable to taking 3 pictures. Of course, none of them were anywhere near good. It reminds me of the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel had to get passport pictures taken.

Oh, poor Kat! --And on her birthday too! I have always been one of those people who photograph horribly. I know I can't look that bad, because two different men were willing to marry me, and I have children. I even used to be able to get an occasional date. Most of my photos make me look like a gargoyle. The only exception is movies. In those, I must look the way I really do in real life. I wonder why that is? Too bad I can't have a movie on my driver's license. Well...with modern technology, I guess I could.

Stef might be able to figure that out, Edisto! It's a good idea. I think it's the animation which makes you look more like yourself.
I went up there again today- my real birthday- and they told me it was a 3 hour wait. I got there about 2 hours to closing. I stepped inside after checking in and went up to someone to ask questions- someone who had been waiting. The place was packed. Well, pretty soon everyone was talking to everyone else in multiple languages! Comparing stories, finding out they were near neighbors, stuff like that. In fact it got so loud it was like a party! Anyway I had to leave after about an hour- there was no way they'd get to me today.
So now my lisence has expired!
Don't tell anyone!
I did try!

Kat, smiling at your escapades, all I could think of
was my tried and true conviction: "everything happens for a reason" even if it is as simple as:
your hair will look much better tomorrow! Good

Natural ingredients.
I ate 1/2. Very fluffy, with nuts and chocolate chips.

I made my license renewal appointment online Tuesday night for Friday at 4 pm.
I got into the express line 15 minutes early and I was home again by 5 on the dot. Just as I closed the garage door the storm hit. (The daily Thunderstorm barrage). It was only a $1 late fee. The picture is Great!
Then the Library called- the books I had ordered were just in. One was interlibrary loan - Jack the Ripper as told in the newspapers, and the new Harry Potter!
I had asked them to start the waiting list for Harry Potter in May and they did with me first on the list! Yay!
(Usually books I order straggle in every other day or so which keeps me running up there. I decided they just wanted to see me, really badly...)

You're lucky, I can't wait to read the new Harry Potter also! But, I don't understand all the hype about it lately? Every time I turn on the radio or TV, I keep hearing about this book, like they are trying to send people in some foaming mouthed frenzy to get this book. There was some talk radio show on today that was talking about the phenomenon of illiteracy going down in children due to their wanting to read again because of the Harry Potter book series. And, apparently our local library ordered 300 copies of the new book and my understanding of the story is that the books aren't there for loan, but for purchase. Hunh?

Our librarys lease popular books for a certain amount of time- it's cheaper than buying and then they get recycled somehow, much later.
Yes the Potter books are reducing illiteracy supposedly and they are actually teaching it in school. I think they are using it for bi-lingual students who need to learn English quickly, around here.

I had to pre-order the new Harry Potter for Zack on amazon.com months ago.

On the news the other day they showed the dramatic security measures they had to take to ensure the book was kept under wraps until it's release date!

They did a good job-- It arrived via the USPS on it's release date!

I have barely seen Zack since!
