He worked in the Marion General Store...

This is the place to discuss the city and the locality of the murders and the surrounding area --- both present and past.

He worked in the Marion General Store...

Post by nbcatlover »

When James Spader won the Emmy last night, he thanked his mother twice (because he forgot last year). Mom, Jeanne, lives in Marion.

His parents retired to their summer home there. His dad wrote for the Standard Times before he died. Townies in Marion know him as little Jimmy from the General Store.

Betcha Lizzie would have liked little Jimmy.

I had to laugh, Kat.

Yesterday's paper had Jean's reaction to her son's double thank you on television, but she also talked some about Marion. She said James still visits in the summer and likes the fact that no one treats him like a celebrity. His mom said that her family had been summering in Marion since the 1800s.

Made me wonder what her maiden name was and just whom did her family know back then.

Well, assuming "Spader" is their real name, maybe they're related to the Gard(e)ners! (Sorry; couldn't resist.) Interesting info about James Spader.

Would you believe his father's middle name was Greenwood?

Snok,

You think Lizzie would have knifed James Spader when he was a cute little boy ?

Oh this week he was SO CUTE! He was in Canada wearing a Red Sox T shirt and a Davy Crockett hat!
I'd like a copy of that still of that scene in the cabin!

I think Lizzie could have knifed anybody. She has shifty eyes and doesn't look trust worthy. Looks like she could do it.

If Lizzie knifed James Spader, he would come back as his character on Boston Legal and defend her. Can you picture William Shatner instead of George D. Robinson? Scary, but somehow similiar.

I was infinitely amused by the Davy Crockett hat...brings me back to my youth. I've had a rough school week. Now I'm imaging Lizzie in the DID SHE DO IT? barn-fund poster wearing a coon-skin cap. Sadly, I think she'd look good in it.

We used to have one. It went out the back window of our station wagon on a road trip.
Yes you are right- Lizzie would look quite natural in that hat.
I wonder if she ever hankered for traveling to California?
Uncle Morse had been there, I believe.
So had Uncle Hiram!

And with the big shoulders on that dress!!! I'm seeing her in a buckskin jacket now. You know the type...lots and lots of fringe!

Too bad Wild Bill Hickock was before her time. She might have left Fall River and joined his Wild West Show. It would play into the theatricality of her personality. Instead of a rifle, she could ride out on horseback carrying her rod and fishing lines.

With the success of Commander In Chief, I'll put in a local plug for Geena Davis. She grew up in Wareham and her parents still live there (to the best of my knowledge). It's right next to Marion.

I missed last week, but tonight at the end of the show, Jimmy walked out onto the balcony where Wm Shatner smokes his cigars and as Jimmy approached him he said to *Denny Craig* "Oh there you are. I hardly saw you this episode."

He gets to work with Betty White as well!!!

I had it on tonight but was so busy typing away about the Emerys, I really didn't watch the show. I think he was supposed to be representing someone about a wrongful death (Mrs. Whitehead, maybe?).
