Yes Allen: That photo has been on before, maybe 5 or 6 weeks ago. Not sure whether it is the same one, or the same seller? There was another one that I have seen on ebay (3 times already,) and that's the one which shows Nance on a horse.

I would think that in this photo Nance is the one on the left.

The one with Nance on the horse was also very expensive.

A couple of years ago someone was selling a mantal clock which was suppose to come out of 92 Second street with blood on it and all. --------O.K.!!! :-? ------------- Someone paid several hundred for it, if my mind serves me right.

Now, If the women on the right was lizzie............., then it would be a different story, Huh???

No problem Kat. I had never seen that one before either. For some reason the picture gives me the impression that Nance was sad. I think it's the eyes, but it could just the way me and the way I interpret it.

I agree that's a pretty steep price he's asking for that picture. If the woman on the right was Lizzie, wow, I don't even think I can imagine how much that picture would go for.

Has this picture been authenticated? Does it look like her?
What is the provenance?

I didn't recognize either, but I'm not a graphics expert.

I just sent a messege to the seller asking a few questions. One question I I asked is how the picture came to be in their possession, and their relationship to the last owner of the picture.

Thanks for the link, Missy. That's a new picture to me as well.

Photos of Nance after about age 30 often remind me of Diane Keaton.

Well to try to answer RayS question I did a little searching around after I emailed the seller.

I found some pictures of Elsie Ferguson on this website.

This is the picture from ebay with Elsie's face cropped.

These pictures of Nance are available on the LABVM website.

Do they look like the same people? In my opinion they do.

Well, I agree with you. To me it looks like she even has tears in her eyes. Here are a few things to consider about Nance:

1. She was very tall for her era. About five feet eleven. As a teen she must have been stared at. I doubt very many young boys found her attractive since she was usually bigger.

2. When she took up acting her minister father denounced her from the pulpit. Must have felt great to have your own dad call you a tramp.

3. She went into acting at a time when theater people were in many ways looked down on. Nance did talk about how when she walked home at night people would whisper about her and point at her. Also, she didn't make a lot of money. Can you imagine how she felt when she was too old to play leading roles and there's Carole Lombard being treated like royalty and getting a ton of money? Nance missed the "Golden Age of Hollywood"

4. She was surrounded by rumors of lesbianism. Not just with Lizzie either.

5. In all likelihood she had to end her friendship with Lizzie. Being the rumored lesbian lover of a suspected hatchet murderer does not help one's career.

Yes, it would. That and a love letter would bring a lot of money. I wonder what happened to Nance's things when she died? What if there's some grand nephew/Niece out there with a shoe box full of Lizzie letters and photos?

Great find, Melissa. I love how in each photo of Nance that she looks so different. That would be something, a pic of Lizzie and Nance together, makes me wonder if any exist or existed ever? :?:

The seller answered me just a little while ago. He said he's been a dealer of theatrical memorabilia since 1989, and has a doctorate in theatre history. His said everything he sells has a lifetime guarantee of authenticity. He said the photograph came from the Leonard Finger Collection which was auctioned off some years ago. He was very polite and thanked me for my interest in the photograph. But now I have a question of my own. Who is Leonard Finger?
