Valentine's Day

Post by Elizabelle »

How do you feel about it?

When I was younger, I used to think it was the most "romantic" day of the year. Well, I must be getting old and cynical, (I'm 25) and now I just feel like it's over-commercialized and cheesy! To me, romance is in the small gestures done just because you want to, not because you feel obligated on a holiday that's totally commercialized...

I also think it's funny how the usually "non-romantic" people try to make an effort on just that one day a year.

On a daily basis my husband is romantic to me, kind, sweet, and all that good stuff, so we don't really celebrate Valentine's day with a box of chocolates/roses/card/etc.

Tomorrow evening my husband will be making me a nice dinner, and to make it even more special, it will be in our brand new home that we just bought. Well, not brand new...it was built in 1910, but it is "new" to us and the most perfect house I could ever hope for! So that's how we will be spending Valentine's Day with each other...our first meal in our new home.

Fall River is the place to be,
city living is the life for me.
Bought a nicer house,
so big and wide!

that's where I was charged with homicide!

I love romance... And I love my husband.

I think Valentine's Day is like Christmas. You can choose to give in to the commercialization or you can choose not to.

I always get something sparkly for Valentine's Day and there is nothing wrong with that!

We have never missed going out for dinner on Valentine's Day... Except one time. I was in the hospital for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy with the triplets and Thayne had the meal catered in .

He also gives me a tulip for every Valentine's Day we have spent together. This year I get an even two dozen!

When I announced to my parents I was planning to come to America for college they forbid me to do so! I eventually convinced them but had to promise not to seriously date... They were afraid I would meet a man here and stay and that is just what happened. I knew the moment I saw him that I would someday marry him.

I still get a thrill every time I look at him.

So I, for one am going to celebrate love-- and think of the beauty of the couple in their 80's who go to our church and always hold hands walking in... And hope we are still like that!

I am going to smile at the thought of giggling girls and blushing boys and remember my first kiss.

I am going to buy the card, the gift and remember that although my husband is romantic and tender to me every day of the year-- Valantine's Day is the one day he does something extra special that stands out all year long!

I hope you all a special romantic moment tomorrow--even if it is a memory of a time long past.

Amour!

Under this iron-clad, cynnical exterior, there lies a true romantic. I love Valentine's Day, but only when I have a Valetine. The day isn't necessarily about exchanging of gifts to me, but spending time together talking and drinking coffee is nice. Since my inclination is to give gifts, I do when I have the money to, but don't really expect anything other than valuable time together.

I, too, love Valentines Day. My husband is a real romantic, always bringing cards, little gifts, etc. Usually we have a nice day with cards, a nice present, and a beautiful dinner. (My husband is an executive chef, and does ALL the cooking!) However, this year, money is extremely tight. We are still recovering financially from his operation for prostate cancer last February, plus giving some much needed financial help to one of the boys. So we decided this year to forget the cards and presents, have a lovely dinner together, and just be thankful he's still here, and healthy again!

I have had the best V-Day ever. My boyfriend, whom I am madly in love with, made a beautiful peice of art for me and told me he loves me for the first time today. I don't think I've been this happy since I saw Tori Amos in concert for the first time in '97!

This is a bit late but when I was in the third grade us kids made heart-shaped pouches made of pink and red paper with our name on it and they were tacked on the wall. When I came to school after being sick for a couple days I found my pouch full of Valentine cards and candy. I remember feeling elated that the other kids actually "cared" about me and had to hold back some tears untill I realized that all of the other pouches were full too. It was a big emotional let-down for me but the candy helped me make a recovery.

A few years ago I heard on Valentine's that one of my friends had breast cancer. She pulled through it OK but everytime I hear Valentine's Day I think of her and that blasted disease. It's crazy how things get linked together.
