For one day, it temporarily solves the problem that British & American dating systems are different.

American= August 8, 2008

British= 8th August 2008

Just think if you had noticed it at 8 minutes past 8 this morning. They still have time in the mountain and west coast times zones.

I need to rest! :lol:

And it was a British *someone special's* birthday:

Princess Beatrice of York (Beatrice Elizabeth Mary; born 8 August 1988) is a member of the British Royal Family. She is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York and the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Princess Beatrice is fifth and the first female in the Line of succession to the British Throne. She was the first Princess to be born into the immediate Royal family since the birth of Princess Anne in 1950. She was the Queen's fifth grandchild and second granddaughter.

(I had told several people it was Princess Eugenie's B Day, but not so- it is Eugenie's elder sister.) Born 8-8-88.

Here you go, Harry...

Two babies, in neighboring states, were born at 8:08 a.m., on 08/08/08, and weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces!

Yes, Kat, you beat me to Beatrice!
I recall that, because all these "8's" are supposed to be very lucky. When "Bea' was born, it was considered the luckiest day of the past century.

My partner and I were in the Recorder's Office in Alameda County California (Oakland) on Friday- 08-08-2008. This is where all official documents are dealt with: property deeds, death and birth certificates and marriage licenses. While we were there the office had about 200 people there. When we spoke to one of the security folks she told us that this was the craziest that anyone could remember-now this includes the "big" wedding dates like Valentines Day, New Years Eve, and Christmas Eve- apparently all popular days to get married. Indeed it was nuts on Friday- because of the date.

We were told that in the Asian cultures 8's are supposed to bring luck; but the people there were in that office on this day were of all cultures (I guess luck isn't reserved for one culture only, eh?). While the security person was telling this fascinating tidbits of info one of her co-workers came up and informed us that they had just broken a record of 125 marriages and it was only 1:30 pm; they still had another 3 1/2 hours to go!

For those couples who actually got married at the office there- the response that they received from the crowd of folks waiting in line was absolutely incredible. Whether it was a man and a woman, two women, or two men, each couple as they were leaving, left to thunderous applause. There were many characters on at that office on 8/8/08 but the happiness, hopes, and good wishes that was also evident, made it a field trip that we won't forget! :grin: :lol:

Thanks, Judy. The parents won't have any trouble remembering the birth date or the weight. Pretty unique.

Bobbypoz-- One of my brothers drove down for the wedding of one of his buddies this past Friday. The couple had chosen the date because of the "luck of the eight's." The groom even wore "8-shaped" cufflinks. I learned this ex-post-facto. Didn't consider the groom so superstitious, but he's been through one messy marriage/divorce, so ....

*************************************************************
Kat-- "God save our gracious Queen."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And-- may Prince William be next.
As for Charles & Camilla-- To think, Edward VIII had to go into exile when he married a divorcee. I wish C & C no ill will. However, I do not believe they are fit to serve as monarchs, and that he should renounce his claim to the throne. They can stay out in Gloucester and watch the sheep stroll through the meadows, till the cows come home.
Crumbs-- I'm probably scratched off their guest-list. But, hey-- when Joan Rivers is a headliner at your wedding-- and that, after she did that scathing comedy album attacking the entire royal family, back in the early '80s.

Doesn't it though? I couldn't believe it when I first ran across the news reports on those two babies.

You're welcome, Harry. Thought you would enjoy that bit of trivia. The parents won't have any trouble remembering the time of day these babies were born either! :grin:

It is not at all unusual for two babies to be born on the same day, but when two babies, from different states, are born on the same day, weighting in at exactly same weight, and born at exactly same time of the day, well, it is extraordinary!!!

It's true that the number eight is considered a lucky number in China, so it is any surprise that the opening ceremonies for the Beijing Olympic Games began on 08/08/08, at precisely 8:08 p.m.?
