Millvina Dean (1912-2009) Last Survivor, R.M.S. Titanic
I staid the night for shelter at a farm behind the mountains, with a mother and son - two "old-believers." They did all the talking...

Yes, it's the end of an era. Our Titanic website had 3,000 hits with the first press release we published around 10 a.m.-it was a long day with reporters and wire services on the phone. Millvina was so much fun- great zest for life, feisty, funny- and many will miss her. It was a great moment in my life to take her to Pier 54 in NYC to see where the Carpathia brought her in when she was only 3 months old. Now, they are all gone.

Mostly it's just the one advantage of being older than dirt- I started in the Titanic community back in 1976 when so many survivors were still alive. I am sad for the young people now beginning their interest in the ship- the glory days are over. But we are building for one last great hurrah for 2012 for the centennial.
