Robinson Desk on display

Post by Stefani »

This from the Springfield Mass. Museums:

"In the spirit of the season of gift-giving, Frank and Bea Hano, longtime supporters of the museums, have donated a desk with an interesting link to the infamous Lizzy Borden. The desk belonged to former Massachusetts Governor George Dexter Robinson (1834-1896), who was a high school principal and lawyer in Chicopee.

After serving as governor, he achieved fame as a lawyer by serving as the defense attorney in Lizzie Borden's murder trial. It is believed that Robinson prepared his case while working at this very desk."

Sounds cool. If anyone goes, can I have a photo?

Kat and Stef,

A lady I teach with has family in Springfield. Her Mom and Dad. I will talk to her tonight and see if they can get to the museum and get a picture or two for us. I'll let you know what I find out.

Are there any papers in the drawers???

Call me dumb, but I didn't see any picture. Do you have to click on something else?

In his day, Robinson was very well thought of. He was really a civil servant for the people - he really worked hard for just and right causes. He didn't want to run for governor, but he accepted the nomination. His gift for oratory was used to better these causes. He got a lot of really good things accomplished.

But then, one day, in 1893 ... I guess much of that reputation got flushed down the privy.

Hey, the Titanic Historical Museum is in Springfield. It's in the back room of "Henry's Jewelry Shop". I loved it!

I can't figure out how any governor has time to govern when they had to run again for office the very next year.
Maybe they only stumped a week or so back then before the vote, not a year like nowadays?
(What good causes?)

Thanks for the updates!

Have them look in the drawers as Augusta noted! Maybe Bridget Sullivan's inquest testimony is in there!
(I don't want a confession, mind you...)
