Paranormal Activity

Post by Cheryl »

Not sure how many of you out there are fortunate enough to have this film showing in your city, but THIS WAS FANTASTIC!

I live in Orlando and found that it is playing in only one theatre @ Universal Studios. The only showing is midnight. They had two screens showing it....both were sold out.

My daughter and I went last night (glad I prepurchased the tickets around 7:00 p.m.). She's only 15, but this R rated movie is only R for language and I figured she could handle it.

It's a low-budget film. Almost filmed entirely in one location, with a total of 4 actors. I understand Paramount (I think it was them) held on to this gem since 2006, considering handing it over to hollywood to "remake". But after viewing it several times, decided to release it as is. This was a wise move, as it's "raw"ness gives it peak creepiness.

If you can get out to see this one, I urge you to go!!

This doesn't appear to be showing in my area, at least not yet. Maybe the closer it gets to Halloween? Too bad, because I love these kind of movies.

I hope it is better than "Blair Witch Project," a film that gave me vertigo. It was so overhyped, and bad.

Well, I remember watching Blair Witch a long time ago, and being completely freaked out by it....so you might take my two thumbs up with a grain of salt.

It IS raw with no special side effects...so it has that type of vibe, just like Blair Witch. What it DOESN'T have is "overacting" in my opinion...the OMG! declaration every two minutes with minimal lighting and heavy breathing. It is set up like a documentary, and you feel very much a part of the scene. But the downtime is palpable. Which is extraordinary, and unlike Blair Witch.

Blair Witch got to me too and I really enjoyed it. I never got the dizziness from the camera work that others did.

Finally caught this last night and all I can say is, this is my kind of horror movie. Ghost Hunters meets The Amityville Horror. Left all to the imagination and mine ran amok.

Ghostly noises and footprints, a oiuja board that moves on its own and ignites, terrified psychics, and a final scene that made me sleep with the lights on. Two thumbs up in my book!
