Psychic Medium Lecture on Lizzie Borden tonight
Just got back from the fifth Lizzie Borden lecture, sponsored by the Fall River Historical Society, held at Bristol Community College.
It was Kim Dennis, Canadian clairvoyant/medium who said that Lizzie Borden came to her during a session she had at her home in Calgary with a woman named Lizzie. After the woman left, a soul remained, and she identified herself as Lizzie Borden (the woman who Kim was doing the reading for had mentioned that she had been joshed about her name, and that the only Lizzie she knew of was Lizzie Borden).
Ms. Dennis said the spirit told her answers to questions and volunteered some info as well. Here is "Lizzie's Story":
Lizzie freely admitted that killed both her parents but she had reasons.
Lizzie had tried to kill Abby a few weeks before with poison but nothing came of it.
That morning she was eating oatmeal with Abby and found out that her father was planning to leave all his money to Abby's family, and she had it with her.
Lizzie had issues of abandonment because of her mother's death.
Lizzie had a lazy eye.
Lizzie was a kleptomaniac and thought that if she could get away with murder she could get away with stealing too.
Lizzie was a sociopath who had no conscious. She had no feelings and exhibited none to the police. She was calm and collected. No emotion.
Lizzie was not sorry for what she did, but she only planned on killing Abby. She went out to the barn to clean up after killing Abby, and had plans to go to the library so someone else could discover the body, but Andrew came home early and she had to kill him or she would be accused of killing Abby.
Lizzie had two dresses, blue ones, that looked similar, and she burned one.
Lizzie had chloroformed a cat for mange but also chopped off its head, which was unnecessary---it showed her sociopathic tendencies.
Lizzie stayed in Fall River because she liked the notoriety. But she only went out at night.
Emma left in 1905 because she read something Lizzie wrote and realized that Lizzie had killed their parents, so they never spoke again.
There are cats that haunt the B&B. She has seen Andrew there too, but he walks around outside the house, circling the property.
Lizzie hid the hatchet in a drawstring purse and got rid of it at a later date, it will never be found.
when someone asked if a woman could hit someone with a hatchet so many times, she said yes, it was an emotional hate-filled event (this to me didn't jibe with the sociopath description).
Lizzie is kept around because everyone is constantly calling her here. If people could just accept that she killed them both, she could move on.
Ms. Dennis and her traveling companion, a woman who introduced her, are writing a book about Lizzie (or it will be part of a book). The woman is a Canadian journalist.
Ms. Dennis confirmed all this information with the folks that work at the Lizzie Borden B&B.

Oh, I forgot to mention that she also said that Lizzie had a brother named William.

She said that Abby was present as well, but she was so focused on Lizzie that she pushed them both out of the way, she feared. At least that is how she worded it.

I don't believe everything I read, but I keep an open mind when it comes to the spirit world. Psychics will often disagree on things / results. This is the time of year I crave spooky stories, and such. More so than usual. Didn't a group of psychics go to the Borden house ?
I think humans have different degrees of intuitive sensitivity, and we focus on various aspects of the case. For some, it's about clues, and for others, the human factor.
She depicts Lizzie as cold, and most of us want to know why Lizzie was such a puzzle. She had to have a lot of good in her to leave $ to so many people, and animals.

YES: Right now, the major entertainment medium, TV, is absorbed with the Paranormal. Perhaps this has it's roots in popular culture and what is commercially fashionable right now.
Spirituality is nothing new and has been with us since a voice out of the sky advised us about which fruit we could consume.
What is on the other side, if one exists, is something no one can prove, but which all desire.
But, even friends of mine, who are practicing atheists, freely admit that though they do not believe in a "Afterlife", the curiosity is overwhelming.
And, that is what is really behind all this Paranormal sensation, a desire to know if there is anything after this.
The underlining interest in discovering what "Paranormal Lizzie" has to say, is the fact that she is still with us, and that some day we will be where she is........that there is a "afterlife."
A good part of this Paranormal rubbish has to do with the desire to "Know".
Now........ (?)
Is this a science?
Religion?
A gift?
Is it rubbish? ( I called it rubbish, though it is not a declaration.)
Now, the questions are endless...
Reality an illusion.
The truth concealed. But, not to all.
There are a handful of people who claim to have special abilities to see, feel, hear, and sense things we cannot.
There is a couple of ways to codify them.
Gifted, Spiritual, deranged, misunderstood, or charlatan, scam artist, lunatic.
All-in-all, is Ms Dennis supplying us with a transcendental gift, or is it a crock of Lizzie poop.
However you look at it, it is a question that most of us are afraid to step forward and defend or dispute.
The perfect liar is one who can lie to himself and believe it. Once you have convinced yourself those around you are easy.
Is Ms Dennis lying to herself?
Is she lying to us?
Has she scammed herself?
Do you really believe Ms Dennis speaks to Lizzie Borden?
My simple answer is, NO.

I think what's frustrating about the Ms. Dennis experience is that she hasn't come up with anything tantalizing, as in-- where, exactly, did Lizzie hide the hatchet and dispose of it so it will never be found? Also, the breakfast menu is off, as well as Lizzie's dining with Abby.
However, I'm not going to negate her experience. It just seems frustratingly (again, that word) incomplete and at points inaccurate, and therefore lacks what might possibly pass as substantiation.

While this psychic medium might not be completely believable I do believe there is something to the legitimate psychic investigation. I have been reading alot about and studying the Villisca axe murders of 1912 and while I am not wholely convinced in ghosts and hauntings to me the EVP's that have been obtained in that house are pretty convincing. They seem to respond to what the investigators say or ask of them and they even mention their names which are the murder victims names. What are the odds that that is just random static noise or radio signals??? This is the site if anyone is interested in further exploring this case. Seems there were alot and I do mean alot of axe murders going on at the time in the midwest. http://www.villiscaiowa.com

At the LizzieAndrewBorden VirtualM/L we've created a "Psychic" section with examples of news items and letters about the case from the past- for example:
The Lizzie Borden Sourcebook, David Kent, Branden Publishing, Boston, 1992. The Fall River Herald, c. Aug. 14 or 15, 1892:
"MORE FROM THE SPIRITS.
-------
Both Mr. and Mrs. Borden Talk--The Latter Comforts Lizzie.
Two more messages have been received from the spirit world, says a correspondent of the Boston Post. Sunday evening the spirit of Andrew J. Borden knocked again at the brain of this New Bedford medium, while Monday night from 8 o'clock until 10:30 the spirit of Mrs. Borden whispered strange words that may or may not mean much.
Monday night's message from Andrew J. Borden read as follows: 'No one knows where the axe is but you. Now I want you to publish when you go to the hidden scene; start early in the morning when the air is clear. Two weeks from now you will know much more about this. We want justice done to this dear woman.'
'Do you mean the medium?'
'Yes; you must see, my friend, that she is well rewarded. I know that you can find the axe. A number of persons have been there but have found no trace. Even the man who hid it cannot locate the place now. You cannot find the axe unless the medium goes with you. They have not got this man's name I gave you; don't wait too long before you go for the man.'
'Shall I write to the Pinkerton's?'
'Don't write; let them come to you.'
'Did the man have dark circles beneath his eyes?'
'Yes.'
'Were his clothes dark blue instead of a black or dark brown?'
'I cannot tell; only they were dark. When I was struck I was in the mortal, when I saw I was in the spirit; I feel I am losing my strength; I must leave you; good night. ANDREW J. BORDEN.'
Monday evening the following was received from the spirit of Mrs. Borden: 'This is Mrs. Borden. I have come to thank you for what you have done for us.'
'Can you give us a test?'
'Tell them to take care of my things and a copied picture. I will do as much to help them. Tell Lizzie I know the window was left open; I know the man can be found. Please write this to Emma: "I want to know the reason you don't go to Fall River."' The reason was given and accepted by the spirit, and the influence left, signing 'Wife of A.J. Borden.' "

Fascinating. I would love to believe that spirits come but I've never seen them so. . . Although one or two weird things have happened to me. Hmmmm.
Seems like some lean to a man hidden in the closet as the attacker. I could buy that since I don't want to believe Lizzie did the murders.
Thanks for the link.
