As usual, I appreciate feedback on my work -- even if that feedback is critical.

My, but that is one very long Whittling this time. It's packed with much information about the author's life and the novel itself. There is much information about other versions of the story as well.

Herman Munster is mentioned. I was kind of hoping for a reference to Frank of The monster Squad TV series but it is not remembered much today. I used to watch it every Saturday mourning back in the 70's.

Yes, well done, much information and similarities to go over. I have never read the novel, but I shall.

(Denise) I tend to try to make my Whittlings fairly comprehensive. There is a lot to be said about Frankenstein.

(Denise) Sorry. I obviously could not include everything and have to admit I'm unfamiliar with that series. I'm glad you enjoyed "The Monster Squad."

(Denise) It's gratifying to know that I may have inspired someone to read a classic.

With every new issue of the Hatchet it always surprises me how little reflection or comments it receives here on this forum. Makes me wonder how many people here actually read it. Perhaps very little actually do? If read, perhaps they don't like what they read.......or again, are readers who are difficult to impress or motivate.

How much can it take to say: Yes I loved it, liked it, hated it, or simply, yes, I read it. confounds me? (or does it?)

What ever the reason, it amazes me how little criticism the magazine and its authors receive on this liberated collaborating stage. Especially when some of it's writers are active here on the forum.

Beats the frog out of me.

Having said what I have above:

I don't feel comfortable commenting on publications I write for. One reason has to do with ethics; the other is that I find it difficult not discoving something I want to criticize about a piece. It may be a big change or small one. Not that it make me right or wrong; just that I have something to say about it.

But since D asked, I'll let her have it.

No seriously:

I very much enjoyed ddnoe's piece on Frankenstein. It had just the right measure of history, story and bio. Well balanced in the telling of the monster tale, it's place in modern culture, and non-exegesis memoir on Mary Shelley's life.

As I often mention, its an easy read---that is to say, no nonsense and concise.....informative.

There's a lot to learn here in such a short piece.

Don't have the time to read the actual book? Want to know a little about Mary Shelley's life?

Read this piece.

You'll walk away with enough knowledge on Mary Shelley's life to impress friends and strangers at your next party.

Kudos to Ddnoe on this one.
