I came across this project and am contemplating doing it. I have "stories" about my ancestry rather than facts. Has anyone sent in a sample for this study?

It sounds fascinating, nbcatlover! But I am wary of things that dig into your privacy.
You know Ancestry.com? Well, this girl on there has no father, and she claimed my husband was her father, and she was going all over the U.S. tracking my husband's relatives down, telling them she was his daughter and had no idea why he wouldn't have anything to do with her.
She has this massive family tree on there, using my husband as her father. And after two contacts to Ancestry.com, they refused to do a thing about it, even tho I said she was being fraudulent and mis-representing herself as my husband's daughter.
In one of our communications with this girl, she is Mormon, where all the genealogical records are held. Granted she is a nut case, but she told us that the Mormon church is doing this and when they get so many records of people, they are going to lock them all up and those are the only people who are going to heaven ...
It's amazing the info people will just hand you if you give them a song and a dance.
So, tho that might be a worthy project, I am already sickened by the thought of letting anyone I don't know know anything about me. I don't want my DNA handed over to some company if I don't have to. You just never know.

I have never done a search myself, yet, but about a year and a half ago I got a call from a woman who claimed she was the mother of a well-known Hollywood actor and that he was related to me. I thought, "Yhea, right" and gave her the buzz-off treatment thinking it was some sort of scam.
Well, guess what? About a year ago I found out it was true. I then went through my family's photo album and there was the resemblance. His grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. People have been telling my sister for years that she looks like the actor but never took it seriously. When I compared photos of both I finally saw it. Strangely he and I don't look anything alike but after running his movies in slow motion looking for any resemblance I noticed he kicks his right foot out a bit when he walks. I do the same thing but with my left foot. He and I share the same off-the-wall sense of humor. He is a normal sized man with smallish, almost dainty, hands and I'm a big muscled-up bear. He has been wanting to meet with me and my family but is too busy working right now.
The old saying, "It's a small world" is so true.
