EReaders?

Post by nbcatlover »

Is anyone here using an ereader? My friend got a Kindle and loves it. I'm thinking about getting one myself (I always bring a book with me to breakfast).

I'd love some feedback if you've had some personal experience.

Thanks, Cynthia

I too am thinking of buying an e-reader, but im not sure if i can bring myself to do it. Sadly, i think i am more technophobic than i like to admit (and also, they can be very expensive)

Having said that, i do have the kindle app on my ipod that im testing out. Its pretty basic, and so far relatively easy to use. Its very very easy to buy books from amazon through the kindle app too. Which is going to get me into trouble!
But i constantly forget i actually have the app and i still lug at least 2 books around with me everyday.

If you are thinking about buying an e-reader, try an app (if you can). There are quite a few different e-reader apps that you can get and most relatively cheap. It might help you with your decision.

I don't have a Kindle or know much about them. I did consider buying one but what put me off was the cost to read a book.

The books on the NY Times bestseller list cost $9.99 each on Amazon. There are some others even higher. They do have lots of free ones as well though.

I know someone who travels and they are very convenient for that, or so she says. It seems like it could also be a good way to get a book immediately, like if Paralell Lives was printed and we wanted to start reading it right away! I would like to hear more opinions about Kindle from people who have them.

Life would "end" if I couldn't sit up in bed with some hot chocolate, a bag of pop corn and feel the warm pages of a good book on a cold winter night.

eReaders? What is this world coming to?

My husband surprised me this Christmas with a Barnes & Noble's NOOK. He bought me the basic edition rather than the color version, which was fine with me, as I wanted the basic edition.
Although my ereader will never erase my love of holding a book in my hand, I love to read and this is a more convenient way to take books with me. Plus, I have left books places before, but since I have a carrying case I'll be less prone to just put it down thoughtless or carelessly. It's hands down probably one if not the best gift I've gotten, because I really wanted one and my husband did surprise the hell out of me by getting me one. I never saw it coming!
And of course, the first book dowloaded, was a Lizzie book!

Going to bed and cuddling up with a cup of coco and a Kindle is akin to snuggling with a cup of coco and a blow up doll.

Don't get me wrong. These Kindle machines are here to stay and may very well replace the printed page. But, if you can't subscribe to my concept of the blow up doll, then you must admit that calling for a download to a book is like calling an escort service.

It is just not the same.

I have been wondering if the popularity of eReaders had any affect on Borders bookstores declaring bankruptcy. Thankfully, the store in my town will remain open, but one other KC metro store has already closed. I don't travel much lately so I'm content to do without them.

How do you underline an important sentence on an e-reader?

How fast can you flip back and forth between pages on an e-reader?

If you lose or break your e-reader are all your downloaded "books" gone for good?

Will the printing of all paper books be discontinued? Where will I be able to buy paper books in the future, besides Goodwill and the other thrift centers? :-?

The future is scary!

Your right, it is scary, and getting scarier! How will you be able to share a book you loved to read with some one else, if it's on an e-reader? How woill you be able to swap books back and forth with a friend? I love to read, and it's hard to imagine not being able to hold the book, turn the page, mark my spot with my favorite book-mark. The world's going down the tubes fast!! Your right too, MB, it's a very poor second choice, to the real thing.....You do have a way with comparisons!! lol You do get you point across, and attention drawn to it! I can't imagine ever having one, not as long as I can get my hands on the real thing! Sigh, what a sad world indeed!
