What did Bridget have to get off her chest?

Post by snokkums »

I was reading a bio on Bridget and a passage caught my eye and got me thinking. It states that whil suffering from pneunona and fearing death was near, she summoned a friend to her bedside because she had something to reveal. By the time the friend got there, Bridget was recovering and revealed nothing, but she said she always liked Lizzie. I am wondering what she had to reveal. Guilt? Guilt from maybe helping Lizzie or not telling who did it? I suppose it is all speculation now, because noone knows, but usually, when there is a "death bed" confession, the person probably wants to get off their chest what they think they did wrong or admit to something. :peanut18:

It might have had nothing what-so-ever to do with Lizzie. She'd lived a long life from that point of time, and it could have been anything. Would have been interesting to know though.......

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Would have been interesting to hear what she had to say about whateverit was. I think I was just assuming that it was about Lizzie and the murders.

We're so focused on Lizzie that it may indeed have blinded us to anything else. Maybe Bridget was going to confess to someone that she had an affair with the butcher or something- it could have had nothing at all to do with Lizzie.

Two things come to mind; was Bridget's friend telling the truth about being summoned, and if so, was Bridget telling the truth about the reason for summoning her friend? Bridget apparently never wrote anything down about the murders, any previously withheld information, to be brought out when she died. Bridget never said anything more to her friend about it when she recovered from her illness. Still, why even bring it up if there was no substance to it, unless it was just to further sensationalize the case?

There is one story on this where Bridget tells her friend Minnie Green that she was the Borden maid at the time of the murders and basically nothing more.

I really wish there was some original source documentation on this story.

Well, that's a good wish Fargo, but if we ever found out the truth, one way or another, what ever would we do? What would happen to this site? Do you think there'd ever be an O. J. Simpson bed and breakfast?

If the truth were known, we could still discuss the circumstances and events on this site.

No O.J. Simpson B and B in the near future, O.J. is still with us and its too soon in time after the crime. Even after several years there could be family members close enough to the victims who would not want a B and B.

The Lizzie case is over 100 years and neither of the victims in the case ( Andrew and Abby ) have any direct descendants who are alive today that maybe offended by the B and B.

I wish I'd have engaged my brain before I typed that about the O J B and B! I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend any one! Thank's Fargo for pointing it out in such a subtle way, I really wasn't thinking.

We might have to move on to the Villisca case or Jack the Ripper. I think I read or heard that the Villisca house was available as a rental for the night. More of a haunted house challenge than a bed and breakfast.

The Villisca house has a virual tour that goes room to room showing each room individually. They think the murderer hid in the attic and waited for them to come home and go to bed before he started killing them. They'd found cigerette butts up there on the floor. You had to go through the parents bedroom to get to the attic. It was interesting.

Someday I'd like to visit the Villisca house. It's roughly 150 miles from here. I don't think I'd be brave enough to stay the night, but I am interested in all the alleged paranormal activity. Supposedly, the 2 am train passing by triggers a residual haunting of the murderer(s) activity. I've read the house has been restored as closely as possibly to it's 1912 condition - no plumbing or electrical. Those folks lived as frugally as the Bordens.

I don't know what's happening to the site I type in, when I hit submit, it changes the last part of it. It should read (after the word paroramas /villisca/slidesvirtual But it doesn't.

Hmmm, unfortunately the link doesn't work, Pam. I even took the URL you provided, and add the missing information, then copied and pasted it in my internet URL space, and it still does not work!

It does take a bit to load, but I thought it well worth the wait. I also thought it might just be my puter, it's not young anymore lol. I also took the same type of tour through George Washington's plantation. Wow, it was hard to believe he lived in such a grand place. They should do something like that at Lizzies, that would be great! You'd get more feel for the house and a better prospective.

I also thought it was worth the wait while the site loaded. I'll have to search for the tour through George Washington's plantation. That sounds interesting! And, I agree, a tour like that through Lizzie's house on 2nd Street would be great - a tour through Maplecroft would be AWESOME!!!

Oh thanks for the tour site. It was worth waiting for it to load. I wonder if all the furnishings are the original ones that belonged to the family. Did I see an air conditioner in the attice and car hood in the cellar.

Yes you did! lol I don't know why they didn't remove those things first. I don't know if it was the same furniture or just things that could have been in a house during that time. It was still pretty cool though.

I've read that the furnishings in the house now did not belong to the Moore family. Thank you for that link. I imagine it would be really eerie to take one of the candlelight tours or spend the night there.

You're welcome! Monticello must have been amazing to people visiting when it was built. I knew a man who had built his house on a corner city lot which was several feet above street level. He had incorporated a garage into his basement with a sort of concrete ramp as a driveway, so he enjoyed a heated garage and he didn't have to go out in weather to get to his car. This doesn't sound like much by today's standards, many people have attached garages these days, but the house I'm referring to was built in 1917. There weren't all that many people who knew how to drive at that time, fewer who owned cars, and very few had even thought of a heated garage!

I think I know what you're talking about, I drive by a house built up on a hill and their garage is street level under the house where the basement is, they drive right into the basement off the street. It is cool! They never get wet or cold or have to scrape ice off their car. It's an older house, someone had a really great idea, too.
