Spring 2011 - Time To Take Cover

Post by kssunflower »

This morning at work, we all got herded into a 1st floor training room because of tornado warnings in the area. The same storm system that passed through KC spawned a tornado, which hit Sedalia, Missouri. Last Saturday evening, there were also tornado warnings and it has rained every day here lately. This seems to be an unusually bad year for severe weather. Joplin, Missouri was devastated by an EF-5 on Sunday. I'm starting to think those doomsday predictors weren't far off.

I've been wondering the same thing-what is up with all these tornadoes lately???? This year, they seem to be striking highly populated areas at quite an alarming rate!

It has certainly been an interesting few days for me as far as storms are concerned-on the 29th of May, my hometown was slammed by straight-line winds over 80 mph.

Some parts of the city look like a war zone-hundred-year-old trees uprooted and falling onto houses, roofs ripped off, power poles snapped like matchsticks, with over 30,000 in the county having lost power, and I lost mine for two days (luckily, I was able to stay with my sister, who still had power at her house). Just crazy....

I have NEVER seen this kind of damage before, and I've lived here my entire life. But miraculously, despite all the damage, no one was seriously hurt or killed, which was a real blessing.

Glad to hear you made it safely through the storm! You're right the weather has been crazy, to say the least!
