(Someone got it wrong. They were suppose to publish the photo in the print copy of the paper this morning before placing it on the web. Why not? Sells more papers, right. Someone messed up. They got it backwards. They printed it on the web edition and it is not in the morning printed issue. That's not the way it was suppose to go down)

Wow! That's an amazing picture. I would have never recognized her in a million years. Interesting that she is not looking at the camera. Also you don't see a lot of natural poses in pictures of that era. They tend to be more formal since picture taking would be a planned event.

Thank you for sharing the link, MB! What a great photo. Lizzie is quite youthful looking for 56. And, could she be smiling??

MB, Stefani, and/or other Fall Riverites: Is there much chattter and excitement in Fall River over the publication of this photo in the paper, as well as the book in general?

I would think the national news media would pick up on this, and start swarming around the FRHS. Any sign of them yet?

Lizzie either kept a very neat house or they cleared out any personal items for that picture. There's absolutely nothing you might see laying around a porch. No glasses, books, trinkets, pictures, dog toys. Those are some exotic looking plants for New England. They almost look tropical. I read there are five new pictures of her from her later years. It will be interesting to see if we get any more detail or a better look at her. Amazing to me that no one has come forth with these pictures before. You have to wonder what Lizzie would have thought about us still being interested in her 100 years later. How much would you like to sit on that porch and have a discussion with the old gal? I bet she had a story or two to tell - or maybe not.

It's a fabulous picture, and after reading things that seemed to show that she loved animals I'm not surprised to see her with her fur baby. I can't help looking at the picture over and over. I'm trying to see if she has glasses on and maybe I need glasses because I can't quite tell.

Can't wait for my book either.

It's wonderful! Thank you for posting it, mb! I would not have recognized her, either. I don't see her glasses, either. That's true - there isn't any "stuff" by her. She did have a maid.

It looks like it was taken in the summertime. It is nice to see her in white and looking happy.

I ordered 'Parallel Lives' the other day. Can't wait! I cannot imagine the new things we will learn about Lizzie.

This photo makes me wonder about her wearing glasses. In the photo we all know of that she has them on, I wonder how old she was in it. Did she wear them all the time? Did she take them off to have her picture taken in this new (to us) photo?

Somewhere I read that when she gave the big party at Maplecroft for Nance, there were potted palm trees. I took it that Lizzie had them brought in just for the party, but maybe they were all hers. I think it was all the rage then - a lot of large greenery.
