Was traveling thru Ohio last year and saw that Clark Gable's birthplace was coming up, so I went. It's in Cadiz, Ohio (I never pronounce that right). It's a pretty old town with some impressive Victorian homes. It is nice to see, but I wouldn't make it my primary destination if there isn't any other reason I would be going.
There were a lot of exhibits - many donated by the son he never saw, John Clark Gable, who was born after Gable died. His son has visited the museum.
His birthplace was actually next door, but that house was torn down and this house is supposed to be a replica of the real one. You can stay there in one of the movie star named rooms. In the back yard, they have a mini Graumann's Chinese Theatre - people who were in 'Gone with the Wind' and visited the birthplace put their handprints and signatures in cement. Butterfly McQueen's is there, Fred Crane (the Tarleton twin that wasn't Superman), the guy who played Beau Wilkes, the woman who played Bonnie Butler (I think she died this past year). They tried to get Olivia deHavilland to come but her agent would have charged a lot of money that the museum didn't have (I'm thinking $10,000 but it might have been more. I don't know what year they asked for her, but she's into her 90's now and she looks to be still going strong. She hasn't lost her looks, bless her heart.)
I guess Clark Gable's mother died when he was very, very young. His father worked in the oil field in Ohio. They had some neat stuff in their shop. I think they had a pair of Gable's pajamas on display. Lots of stuff + the woman that gave us the tour was real interesting and very nice.

Re: Clark Gable's Birthplace
Clark Gable was one of my favorite actors. I don’t think anyone else could have played the role of Rhett Butler better then Clark – it’s as if he was made for the part.

Re: Clark Gable's Birthplace
That's for sure! At least, I think so. I've read that they already knew he was gonna play Rhett Butler before the movie was cast. They said the public demanded it, and I believe it.
