Parallel Lives release

Post by mbhenty »

Yes Everybody..............

Lizziebordenparallellives.com

Parallel Lives, the long awaited and newly discovered memoirs and portrayals of the life of Lizzie Andrew Borden and her beloved FAll River, has been released TODAY.

This 1179 page book by prolific Fall River Historians Michael Martins and Dennis Binette is being sold exclusively through the Fall River Historical Society of FAll River Massachusetts.

Orders are being taken as of today. The book is to be shipped no later then November 21st, just in time for the upcoming holidays. Long wait, but promises to be a fascinating read.

The trade edition is being sold at $79.95. There is also a limited edition in slipcase for all you dedicated staunch collectors for $250.00. Shipping cost is 15 dollars for the trade edition and 18 for the limited. Paypal is accepted, or you can just give them a call at 508 679-1071 and order it direct.

Considering the current cost for trade copies of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Vs. Lizzie Borden, The Knowlton Papers, (also published by the FAll River Historical Society) on the antiquarian book market today, which sells for $250.00, prospects are very good that once Parallel Lives is sold out, it will only appreciate in value.

But that is not the intent to buy such a publication. The real objective is to hold the history of this very controversial historical personality in our very hands, and devour the unknown facets of the newly reveled and unknown Lizzie Borden, and how she lived out her life in Fall River and her cherished Maplecorft.

This is very exciting indeed! i was so excited this morning i giddily purchased the deluxe collectors edition. I will most likely regret this on rent day. Oh well :)
However for a case i've been following for years and being genuinely interested in Fall River's history, I think this is worth the money. I feel they deserve every cent for all the work they've put into researching this lost part of Lizzie's life.
Hmmm, sounds like i'm just trying to make myself feel better

There you go Sarahjay..............the deluxe edition no less.

There are only 100 of the limited edition being printed. Such distinguished copies are usually clutched up by collectors or, serious students.

Many book-people poo poo limited editions of a book. In many respects they are considered an artificial rarity. Though rare in number, they are meant to be collectable and have not earned their value by becoming rare over time. Thus, when a limited edition of any book is sold, the buyer goes out of his/her way to keep it pristine. The dear price payed is an investment. But there is no guarantee that a limited edition copy of any book will go up in value over time, and as a matter of fact, some have actually gone down, but depending on the subject matter and author many hold their value or climb in short order.

Examples are such authors as Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, or Ann Rice, who sell well and hold their value. Along with famous names comes desired reading, such as Sci-fi, Horror and of course Vampires. Historical sales prove this.

But as we saw in the past, so does recent publications about Lizzie Borden. Take LIZZIE BORDEN PAST AND PRESENT by Len Rebello or THE KNOWLTON PAPERS. Both sold for around 50 dollars and are advertised in the hundreds today.

A quick look at a used book site I found one LIZZIE BORDEN PAST AND PRESENT for 225 dollars and 4 or 5 KNOWLTON PAPERS beginning at 225. And, there are none of either copy on ebay right now.

Though there are a handful of Ann Rice Vampire books listed for sale on ebay. These include VITTORIO THE VAMPIRE, THE VAMPIRE ARMAND and MEMNOCK THE DEVIL. All limited editions in slip cases by Ann Rice; published between 1995 and 1999 and selling for 500, 650, and 250 dollars. (Not sure how much they were when new?)

Below is an example of a succulent 250 numbered limited edition copy of THE VAMPIRE ARMAND in decorative slipcase. Yes, an artificial rarity.....but sooooo nicely done. To a book lover, pulling one out of its slipcase can be a sensual experience. There are several copies on the Web between 450 and 720 dollars.

So, good luck with your purchase and happy reading; though the wait will be painful.

Yes, I tried to discover the original cost of one of Ann Rice's books......The Vampire Armand. (the one in the photo above)

The trade edition sold for 29.95 when originally released.

The limited edition you see above was originally published for 156.50 and now has an asking price of 450 to 750.

Below is the ABE book site which holds 5 copies of Rice's limited edition above. The listing below displays the first three.

Unless you like or collect Anne Rice, or perhaps date a vampire, all this information can be very boring.......but things here on the LB Forum are slow and it's something to talk about I suppose.

YES: ALERT............UNSEEN PHOTO OF LIZZIE (LIZBETH) BORDEN.

Some time very early on Tuesday morning the 25th there will be a press release about Parallel Lives. It will be released here in fall river and in many papers across the country.

Don't miss it.

Along with the article about the release of the book there will be an UNSEEN PHOTO of "LIZBETH BORDEN".

Don't miss it.

You WILL NOT be able to see the photo in the Fall River Herald News on-line-paper tonight, or at least not until the print copy is released early Tuesday morning here in fall river. I'm not sure whether it will be on line later or just in the print copy of the Herald here in fall river.

I purchased my copy of the limited edition. Can't wait to see the new pictures. The newspaper article mentioned there are 5 new pics of Lizzie later in life. That's amazing. btw: I'm a member of the historical society and got the discount, but there was no apparent verification of membership when I ordered it. Maybe they check the address or something along those lines to verify.

I magnified the new photo of Lizzie. IMO, it doesn't look like she wearing glasses.

Yes:

Notice: PARALLEL LIVES Limited Edition becoming "very limited" as we speak.

For any of you who have sat in and read some of my contentious posts about books and book collecting, specifically Limited Editions, especially those by Lizzie authors, I can only offer profound commiseration. My sentiments of such issues can be very abrasive at times.

But, this is not about me nor is this forum. So, get to the point MBhenty.

********************************************************************************************************************

The FAll River Historical Society has published an exemplary example of what a limited edition should be. Though I have not seen one as of yet, below is a description of the limited edition copy from the Parallel Lives web site and it sounds scrumptious:

Limited Edition

The deluxe collector’s edition, strictly limited to 100 signed and numbered copies, includes severalexclusive features that do not appear in the trade edition.

A protective, fully lined slipcase, illustrated with a poignant, recently discovered photograph of Lizzie A. Borden tipped in to a debossed well, and elegantly framed in gilt foil tooling.
An illuminated page, with artwork incorporating a selection of Lizzie’s personal monograms, signed by the authors, and numbered to indicate placement in the limited edition series.
Richly gilded book block edges, reminiscent of opulent 19th century volumes.
Marbleized endpapers reproduced from a volume from Lizzie’s personal library.
A stitched-in satin ribbon bookmark.
$250 plus $18 shipping & handling in the continental US.
PRE-ORDER THROUGH THE FALL RIVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S WEB SITE

http://www.Lizziebordenparallellives.com

It is rare that a limited edition of any book is sold out via pre-order.

But, as I write, Parallel Lives is coming close to that goal, which is testament to the popularity of Lizzie Borden and the highly regarded and unimpeachable knowledge about Lizzie and Fall River history, delivered in publication by the Fall River Historical Society and its articulate authors Martin and Binette.

The limited Edition may be sold out at any time. The book has yet to hit the shelves and there are only 20 copies left. Yep, if you were thinking about purchasing a limited edition of Parallel Lives, you best do it soon.

There are only 20 copies left of the Limited Edition of Parallel lives.

If your interest level does not reach such a high plateau, a little less than 5000 copies of the trade edition will be issued. Once sold out, if past sales of books published by the FAll River Historical Society is any indication, it is highly unlikely there will ever be a second hardcover or paper cover edition in the future.

Parallel Lives awaits your beckoning.

Thanks for the link, Harry. I didn’t know that Lizzie spent a lot of time at the cemetery tending her father’s grave. I never would have guessed that she did this.

I am so looking forward to receiving my copy of "Parallel Lives".

It's not Lizzie who wears glasses.

I think if Lizzie could know somehow that one of her dogs needed glasses, she'd get them for him.

Yes:

NOTICE;

Only 14 copies of the Limited Edition issue of Parallel Lives have not been spoken for. Fourteen left.

It could very well sell out before hitting the shelves, making the Limited Edition installment a rousing success.

More Buz:

Yes, the Fall River Historical Society is displaying a new Lizzie Borden exhibit for the holiday season, to coincide with the release of Parallel Lives, the book.

In this exhibit will be photos, letters, and other relics which are included in the book. Many of these were newly acquired items donated to the society by the Borden family, and will be displayed for the eyes of patrons and visitors.

Included will be the original photo of Lizzie sitting on the back porch of Maplecroft with her dog on her lap. (the dog has no glasses in this one)

So, anyone who lives close enough to Fall River, drop by and take a look. Sounds fascinating.

Yes:

Had the pleasure of being invited to the Fall River Historical Society's Benefactor's Reception tonight, and present while the first 30 or so copies of the Limited Edition of Parallel Lives was passed out at this exclusive reception which kicks off the circulation of the book.

Sadly, not being a benefactor or a member, I was not allowed to walk off with my copy until this Sunday, the official release.

While there, Stefani Koorey let me thumb through her Limited Edition copy.

The book can only be described as massive. It's big, heavy, thick, and well illustrated.........and, oh yes, informative. There has not been anything like it published about the life of Lizzie borden, ever, ever, ever, with the exception of Lizzie Borden Past and Present, the Rebello Borden Bible.

Definitely worth the money considering the volume of facts and knowledge.

Click on the Mondo site below to view more photos of the limited edition and it's custom made cloth covered slipcase, lined with felt and with a small photo of Lizzie on the box.

Oh yes, as of tonight, there is only one, l'un, uno, um........................ONE copy of the limited edition left

Cool!

If Parallel lives is as good as it seems then my guess is that since it will be source material showing Lizzie more kind from how many books have shown her. My guess is that we will see more books on the case coming out using Paraller Lives as a resourse, and showing a different Lizzie.
Maybe this will be the book that will finally get Hollywood to make a major movie about the case.

Joy of all joys! My limited edition copy finally made its way to me in Australia today.
What a beautiful looking book! Of course I've quickly flicked through sections but really do think the best place to start is the beginning. It's too exciting.

How is everyone going with the material so far?

I'm about 150 pages in and really enjoying this book (other than trying to hold it with my arms going numb). The pictures and details are fantastic. Almost like a time travel book to 19th Century Fall River. From past experience, I was concerned the FRHS would try to pass off a boring Fall River history with only cursory info about Lizzie. But they have intertwined the story and history of Fall River with that of the Borden family. And they seem to have beat the bushes for every scrap of information about Lizzie. The tidbits about Lizzie's moods as a child from her schoolmate's diary are tantalizing. No solving of the mystery - I think that has already been done - but great stuff.
