Sarah Welch: Borden family

Post by MysteryReader »

I'm researching Sarah Welch, a servant of the Borden family. Can anyone tell me who Elizabeth Morse was and why was she apparently living with Andrew J Borden during the 1865 Census? Here is the link:

Emma is listed as being 14 and Lizzie as 4.

Elizabeth Morse was a relative of Sarah Morse Borden, Lizzie's mom. I can't remember the exact relationship and I know others here do. It would be easy to find in our search engine here as I believe Curryong very recently mentioned this very person.

Thanks, Irina. Sarah isn't listed in the census though. Elizabeth is about 29 years old. I'll look in the search engine.

Elizabeth Morse was a first cousin to Sarah Borden and John Vinnicum Morse.

Yep, I think I've found all I'm going to find on her at the moment unless anyone here knows if she married and to whom?

Elizabeth and her sister Henrietta gave an interview to the Fall River Daily Herald in August 1892, following Lizzie's arrest. Elizabeth believed Lizzie to be innocent, but described her as 'peculiar'. I think I posted what she said a while ago. Elizabeth and Henrietta were both Morse in 1892 so hadn't married.

An accounting of her father's estate was completed by Emma in January 1894 as part of the probate settlement. She and Andrew Jennings the lawyer were administrators. Henrietta signed as a formal witness to the process. The estate came in at $348,650 (about $59 million in today's money, if not more.)
