Hi. I'm obviously new - so apologies in advance if these are really dumb questions!

A couple of things bother me about the case.

1) Was this an act of spontaneity? I'm assuming yes because otherwise how could the killer know that the father would return home early (due to illness)? Perhaps the killer only planned to kill the stepmother & killing the father was an afterthought? Wrong place, wrong time - rather than motivational? If you take money (the will) out as a motivation - which is what you do if you take the father out of the equation, then you change the dynamic. Also, if the father lives, he can remarry. Suggests to me that someone hates Abby - not just as a stepmother but as something else/more.

2) The killer would have been drenched in blood. Someone would have noticed if Lizzie had changed. Perhaps she had a duplicate dress - but if so, when did she get time to change unobserved?

3) Related to 2), wouldn't the clothes (corsets and stays) have been too restricting for a violent crime such as this? Lifting up a weapon repeatedly with corset and stays on? Women could barely breathe in those things!

4) Taking 1), 2), and 3) together, while motive still points to Lizzie (or her sister), mode of operation points to a man to me. Perhaps the brother or an unrelated psychopath?

Interested in your views!
Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum. I don't think it was spotanous. I think Lizzie might have been stewing about it for a long time. I guess if you are made enough restrictive clothing wouldn't hinder the person. Given the the short rope the father was keeping the girls on, and the hatred towards their stepmother, I think it all points to the girls. Or at least Lizzie.
