Holy Moly, MB, what a gold mine!!!

I have spent most of the afternoon, today, reading articles I have not read before, and re-reading some of the articles that I have read before. What a treat!!! :bounce:

I read the article titled, Growing up Along the Quequechan, for the first time. There is a photo of a young man in that article who is a Fall River native. What a great article, and seeing that photo sure put a smile on my face!

The forum has been slower than a snail crawling through molasses in the dead of winter. Perhaps there are some forum members who will read these outstanding articles and find something they have questions about or something they wish to make a comment on, after reading an article they find interesting. Hopefully the forum will became a bit more active again. I know I have been a huge slacker for posting on the forum  ; I will try to do better.

I can’t thank you and Stefani enough for giving us this fantastic opportunity to learn more about Lizzie Borden and the Borden murders.

Thanks Twins :!:

Yes, how great is that, eh?

I took that photo in the article of the old "Portuguese Lady" on her way to mass. (church) She died shortly after I took the photo. Growing up I remember many of these widows dressed in black. When they lost their husbands they would dress in black for the remainder of their lives.... especially when going to church.

Whenever I see a picture of that little boy it moves me to memory. I have a special place in my heart for him. (if you can understand what I mean?) Like talking about yourself in the third person. He was someone I knew at one time.

You should read my other article called, Apprentice to a Shoeshine Boy, a part two to growing up in fall river. Not a very happy article, but then again growing up where I did it was not a happy place. I grew up in a less than ideal environment for a boy. Tough neighborhoods. Our apartment house on Pleasant Street in the Flint section of the city was one block from the corner where the Webster Street Gang loitered, one of two semi-organized gangs in the city, with the other being the 8th Street Gang towards the center of town. A shadow of what gangs are today. Still a hinderance that I had to negotiate every time I went out.

This is wonderful! Thanks for letting us know.

Once my eyes stop smarting from all the time I've been spending reading Uncle John threads from the archive, I look forward to reading The Hatchet.

Doing this really brought back a ton of memories of working with these authors. The serious amount of scholarship here is mind-blowing. I thought the hidden nature of it was a detriment to the continued discussion of the case. And it has been five whole years since we ceased publishing. It was time. I also like the look of it.

The work is incredible. And unless you purchased the magazine, you were unable to view the contents. The research is too important for it to remain behind that paywall.

I didn't include some things. I left out the snippets from the newspapers (too hard to read), the Lizzie Borden Girl Detective short stories by the late Richard Behrens (his widow is publishing them shortly in book form), and a few other insignificant items like quizzes, cartoons, fake Lizzie images that were created for the site for humor purposes, and perhaps a few other smaller items.

At 365 articles, you now have quite a lot to read.

It is my sincere hope that by gifting these to you that it will increase the scholarship on the case and offer points to debate and discuss.

It is VERY important for you to know that EVERY piece was fact checked and reviewed so that you can be sure the story is correct. There were many times we had to edit an author if they could not provide a source for what they were stating. We are proud of our work.

And I hope you enjoy them.

Cheers,
Stefani

Just to also be clear, the articles were written between 2004 and 2013. The facts, at the time, are correct. However, there are probably cases where our known is new now and updates can be pointed out on this forum for all to learn from.

For instance, Parallel Lives was published in 2011. That changed so much of what we know about Lizzie and her life. So there may be cases where what we knew then is markedly different from what we know now. We now know, as an example, that Emma traveled a great deal, and even went to Mardi Gras and California on her travels. That Lizzie spent a lot of time in DC, her favorite getaway. These facts are important, and were not at all known to us when some of these pieces were written.

I guess this is sort of a disclaimer. But feel totally free to point them out on the Lizzie Borden Society Forum. We all have more learning to do!

Thank you for your generosity, Stefani!

I didn't know either of these things. As an aside, it's hard for me to picture Emma at Mardi Gras.

My much anticipated copy of Parallel Lives should arrive Monday, so I'll read that first, since it has the most updated information.

It is in Parallel Lives. I don't think she showed her breasts for beads. At least, we have no evidence of it. :-)

Wow, so great and generous of you to share all those issues with us, Stefani. Thank you very much. I thought it was sad day when you quit publishing.

At first I read that wrong about Emma showing breasts, and thought I'd better go reread some of Parallel Lives to check it out but then I read your post again. Hahaa Couldn't even imagine. . .

Agreed, it'd be very difficult to imagine Emma even thinking about doing the breasts for beads thing!
