yes, i'm sure that's exactly why emma brought it up. but, you know, some part of me still buys that lizzie and andrew genuinely loved one another. in their own weird way. too many people noted it. but then how to reconcile that with believing she hacked his face into mincemeat?

curses on the theory. i got a bit excited about exploring the david angle for a while there, but all of these theories seem to end up in one sort of dead end or another.

Inquest testimony from Dr Bowen about Abby's sudden visit to his home the day before the murders. (Page 115)

Q. What morning was this?

A. Wednesday morning. I asked her what she had eaten for supper and she told me. She said she had eaten some baker's white bread, and she had heard of baker's cream cakes being poisonous and was afraid there was something poisonous in the bread that made her vomit. She said she only ate cake and baker's white bread.

At that point she had a sort of eructation of vomiting, slightly. I was afraid she was going to vomit there. I rather got ready for her. I told her to go home and told her what to take; and she took it.

Although Dr Bowen reassured her by saying if anything was wrong with the baker's bread there 'would be cases around the town' (paraphrasing here) Abby had probably heard many stories of adulterated bread and cream cakes and maybe wasn't pacified.
I thought the Bordens had swordfish for dinner, or was that an earlier meal? Abby apparently perked up sufficiently to have mutton broth for Thursday's breakfast!

i'd forgotten that testimony. read it so many years ago. so abby really didn't suspect lizzie at that point.

Whereas when Lizzie was attacking her with a hatchet...! Sorry, sorry, don't mean to make fun. I've just come back from a birthday party and I'm in a silly mood! :smiliecolors: :alcohol:
