I must have seen the movie three times at the theater when it was out. It really struck a chord with me - good to know I'm not alone.

To a dusty shelf we aspire...

The novel on which it was based is even better. I got the DVD from Amazon-it has come down in price at last. We must find a part in the Lizzie movie for Jeremy Northrup too- he was fabulous in Gosford Park. Now I am crooning Ivor Novello songs on my way to work in the morning. Maybe he could be Rufus Hilliard.

I'd like to see kate winslet or nicole kidman for the role of Lizzie. Kate Winslet does look alot like lizzie.

There's a terrific actress on the TV program "Mad Men" named Elisabeth Moss, who plays a much-put-upon secretary named Peggy Olson. The look is right, plus there's a creepiness about her that would be perfect for Lizzie-playing.
Also, she's diminutive and will turn 26 this July (her birthday is a week off Lizzie's). So, she wouldn't be too old, which was one of the few things going against the talented Miss Montgomery.
For a good color shot, Google "Peggy Olson," the character's name.
Also, if you haven't caught this program, the second-season opener is in late July, on AMC.

Just re-promoting Elisabeth Moss to play Lizzie. She's the complete package: you could see her plotting to kill somebody, and getting away with it, as she can be both insistent and demure.
The wheels just seem to be spinning behind this petite actress's eyes, and she has an incredible presence, whether she's speaking in a scene, or just standing, quiet.
Also, "Mad Men" is an excellent program-- there's a marathon of the first five episodes this new season, this coming Sunday (Labor Day weekend).
Has anyone seen Moss on this program, and what say you?

NICOLE KIDMAN? For little 5'2" (5'4"?) Lizzie? They'd have to have her play the part in a rut.

However, I adore her in THE OTHERS.

I know she is a little old for the role but Kathy Bates would have been good as Lizzie a few years ago, she was fantabulus in Misery; now I could see her as Abby.

Yes, Elisabeth Moss has my vote also. She looks like a riddle wrapped up in an enigma. Just like Miss. Lizzie.

You know, DJ, the more I look at that picture, the less I can remember Liz Montgomery's face in the role! It's eerie!

Elizabeth Moss just received (today) an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series ("Mad Men").
Maybe she'll stumble upon suggestions that she play Lizzie-- there's an Oscar nomination (or more) waiting for her ....

check out pictures of Christina Ricci. It's spooooky how much they look alike in the face. Same eyes. In a few years she would be fantastic! And I couldn't imagine anyone else except for James Cromwell for Andrew.

How about Kathy Bates as an older Lizzie having flashbacks to the "scene," and a young "look alike" playing her younger self ? As for the screenplay, that's another subject. I can't see anyone like Brittney, or Jessica, or Kate playing Lizzie. I would prefer to see a relative unknown, with light blue eyes and reddish brown curly hair. I would love a job as a casting director on that one. I feel that actors should very much look like the character to start with.
