What I loved the most is that my parents would take me and my cousin to the outdoor movies and we felt so daring because we wore our pajamas, and had pillows and blankets in the back seat in case we fell asleep.

I miss The Statler Brothers, who retired in 2002, they truly were entertainers on and off the record. The Statler Brothers were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in October of 2007 and they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in June 2008. They are only the sixth act in history to be in both Halls of Fame.

The Statlers still appear, I believe, with the Gaither Family. Have you seen any of the Gaither Family TV shows? Those shows are especially great at Christmas.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen a Gaither Family TV show in quite awhile; I agree their Christmas shows are spectacular! I'll have to see if I can get their TV shows in my area. It would be pretty cool to see The Statler Brothers perform again.

I remember going to the drive-in in my jammies. Mom would cook up popcorn ahead of time along with some hot dogs wrapped in wax paper. Sometimes we would feel rich enough to plurge and go into the snack shop, wearing our jammies, for our cokes, candy, popcorn and hot dogs. We saw good clean movies then. You never had to worry about the, now customary, naked woman showing up or a never ending stream of foul language. Those were some cool times. Going to the drive-in was like going on a fun adventure of a life time. Kids today don't know what they're missing. Now days movies are full of smut and violence and you have to pay through the nose just to get in not to mention the price of cokes, candy, popcorn and hot dogs.

Remember the "Moon Pies?" You can still buy them. How about the "Necco Waffers?" Remember when candy cost five cents and you felt that was a lot of money? Kids could walk down the street with their BB guns with out starting a country-wide lockdown and girls could play with their dolls on the sidewalk without worrying about getting kidnapped, raped and murdered. Did any of us lock our doors then or install burglar alarms? I remember eating off-the-vine ripe fruit and vegetables at every meal. Now days bananas are green and tomatoes at $3.99lb. are orange and full of who knows what. E-coli anyone?

Was flipping through the debate, catching parts of "The Graduate" last night (I like to hear the S&G songs), and passed about five of the Gaithers singing on TBN. The dude with the beard and the long gray hair stands out, but he wasn't singing lead. Of course, it wasn't the entire family.
There's a drive-in near my Mother's house. It has two screens, four features, a big ol' snack bar, and shows first-run movies, including a lot of the new ones for kids. It's nine bucks a vehicle for a double-feature, and you can bring in as many as will fit, plus whatever you want to eat (or drink on the sly). It's been open since '52 and did go seedy for awhile, then found some good owners and went "family."
Lots of kids go, so it's nice that new generations aren't missing out on everything!

I think you may be right Judy, some owners are probably still wondering. I mean if they were willing to pay $3.95 for a rock in a box, who knows whats going on in their heads? Sometimes I think some people have rocks in their heads. Remember that "Oil In A Barrel- Own Your Own Crude?" (or was it "crud?") People bought into that too.

Remember those "Clackers?" Two plastic balls on a string that you clacked together as fast as you could? I'll bet they drove plenty of parents up the wall!

As I have mentioned before, in other threads, I grew up on a farm - there were rocks all over the place. Just think, if I'd invented the 'Pet Rock in a Box' fad, I'd be a millionaire now!!! What was I thinking!!! Apparently, not about selling rocks!!!

Oh, yeah, I remember those - both of my brothers had one. Of, course, they wouldn't let my sister and I play with it - you know how brothers are? My mother used to send all four us outside, away from the house, waaaaay, away from the house - must have been a bit too much for her.

The senseless things invented that made gazillions of dollars! Why couldn't I have come up with something like that? It makes me wonder.

Remember that stuff in a small white tub that you added hot water to and after 45 minutes it turned into a blob of pink stretchy stuff? What was that called? Mid '60s.

Kat, I remember having yo-yo's. They were a lot of fun. One evening I was showing a couple of my parents friends my "walking the dog" trick when the yo-yo dug into the carpet for traction and took off right up the lady's leg and under her dress! Boy did I feel like a fool. My yo-yo's had a nasty habit of burning through the string. I hated that! I had a purple Duncan.

Paper or cloth parachutes that you threw up in the air? I used a sling-shot to launch mine. A friend chased hers into the street and a car hit her and broke her pelvis. It affected her gait for the rest of her life. It's a wonder our toys didn't get more kids killed.

Toy shotguns that fired round corks attached to strings?

Here's one. Does anyone remember those beach sunglasses that came in several bright colors and had a thin strip of dark material running from one ear piece to the other? The strip was about a 1/4" wide and that is what you looked through. I think they were made by "Sea 'n Ski" and came out in about the mid sixties. I have never seen a pair since. They were cool!

Some of these toys came out when I was grown but I would have loved playing with them if they had come out earlier. Drats!

What about "fuzzy wuzzies"? It was a bar of soap aculpted like a bear and when you left it out for a few days it grew "fuzz" Does anyone else remember having those? Or silly foam? I had a blast in the claw bath tub with that one.

What about the "Slinky" any one ever get one of those?
