Re: Lizzie (and Emma) 1893
Such an interesting article, Kat. Wonder who were “the five”?
Also gives an answer, if correct, to Lizzie’s church attendance, at least in the first six months after the trials.
This quote from the article, ostensibly by Lizzie herself: “…after her pathway was darkened” sounds like her frequent use of passive voice. She seems to see herself as acted upon by life, and not the actor. It is overall a neat way of escaping responsibility.

Yes, I agree it dealt fairly with Lizzie’s church attendance, and was moderate in it’s tone.
Remember the etiquette of the last 2 centuries? “Bread and Butter” gifts and/or “Thank You” notes. Lizzie was on point (pun intended) as she gifted her Newport hosts, after her stay there when released from jail.

You’re welcome!
Pardon me plz, but I found another news item about the fire back in July 1893. It adds a little more description to the event, calling it “unimproved job lot buildings.”
It really seems like being a landlord was a big headache!

Time-travel back to July’s blaze….
