Who's your mama?

My mother is a very strong woman. Stylish to a fault and the epitome of Chic. She has never done a load of laundry or prepared a meal in her entire life but it oddly domestic in her own way. She created a wonderful home for me to grow up in..

Born in Paris she grew up in a house across from the Bois de Boulogne near Paris in a house near to where the Duke of Windsor took his American wife to live. (The Bois de Boulogne is actually a park. Bois means "woods". Boise Idaho gets it's name from this word. It is one of the most beautiful parks in all of Europe.)

She went to design school in London and worked for a bit as a decorator who specialized in the restoration of old Parisian homes. She learned and speaks many languages which is something she passed on to my brother and I. She has always stressed education.

She met my papa when she was 21 and he was 33. She saw him at a dance and asked a friend if she knew him. The friend said yes and Maxine coolly informed her to introduce them as she planned to marry him. He proposed to her 14 days later. (That's my Mama!)

My first memory of my mother is holding her hand and walking with her to the car one time and being very tired and she picked me up to carry her me and to this day... I can smell her perfume. (Jean Patou Divine Folie)

I gave her hell in my teenage years. I fought with her, screamed at her and accused her of being hopelessly out of touch, stupid and I would do anything I could to defy her. I can not believe the naughty things I did!

I have a much better relationship with her now that I am an adult. I can see the strength in her. The masterful blend of feminist in a silk dress.

She is a very astute, funny woman. She draws attention to herself wherever she goes. I love her dearly.

If my mom could have been a nun AND been married and had children...I think she would have. She's devoted to both worlds. I learned a lot from her about sticking to what you believe and trusting your feelings.
