I caught a quick look at something about it on TV and it looked familiar- the entrance to the house displayed is unique and at first I was excited but then I began to wonder...

Another grown kid thinks his dad was the killer. I saw this one. I think it's a war between siblings?

I dunno if this is a repeat (probably), but I know I have the book on which it's based, something called "Black Dahlia Avenger," which is well and truly baaaad. (I don't mean "bad" in a good way, either.) I'm gonna watch it anyway, but my opinion is that the whole thing is BS, designed to sell books and nothing else. I think this guy had it in for his (now deceased) dad and decided to get even bigtime. His dad was probably a tyrant all right, but I doubt that he killed Elizabeth Short, or anyone else. I'll pop up a mess of popcorn and maybe even have a glass of wine with it. What wine goes with popcorn? Ripple?

I've seen this one but shucks! Maybe I'll watch it again.

This dinnertime I just caught the Amnityville murder show on City Confidential. I hadn't planned on sitting watching TV from 6 to 7 p.m.! Since I just got these channels like Court TV and A&E after the storms of last year I have been watching a LOT of TV!

Was that Dr. really a suspect at one time? I'd never heard of him- tho I'd heard of several suspects. A lot of people confessed over the years.

After I started watching it, I realized I'd seen parts of it before. I must have fallen asleep that time, because only a bit of it was familiar. Let's see...handwriting experts say it isn't his father's writing, and an expert on images says the two photos aren't Elizabeth Short, but Hodel still insists his dear ol' dad was the killer. Right! Toward the end, he said he thought his father had killed another woman too. I smell another book in the works.

One interesting thing that I didn't get from the TV show is that Hodel's late mother was married to John Huston before she married George Hodel. Although John Huston is mentioned (and his reputation, if any, thoroughly blackened), the early marriage to Dorothy Hodel isn't.
IMHO, a much better book about the Black Dahlia case is John Gilmore's "Severed" (1994) which is listed in Steve Hodel's bibliography. Gilmore's book badly needs, but lacks, an index. As far as I can tell, it doesn't mention George Hodel as a suspect and comes to no real conclusion as to who murdered Elizabeth Short.

Gilmore's book posits that Elizabeth Short's murder was part of a cluster and that there were other victims. He cites at least one other case with similarities to the Black Dahlia.

I'm posting this item here, though it's slightly O/T, because I don't want to start another Black Dahlia thread just for this.
While perusing Parade Magazine this morning, I noted an item about my favorite young actress (and my choice to play Lizzie), Hillary Swank. It seems she's off in Sofia, Bulgaria, filming "The Black Dahlia!" Sofia, Bulgaria? The movie is based on a novel by James Ellroy and is being directed by Brian De Palma. Scarlett Johansson is listed in the cast, and Mia Kirshner is playing Elizabeth Short. Hillary Swank's character seems to be imaginary; I didn't recognize the name. Anyway, with De Palma, Swank and Johansson involved, it should be worth seeing. I'll cross my fingers. De Palma directed one of my alltime favorites, "Don't Look Now." Anybody else remember that one?

I can't imagin the liberty they may take with a story such as this, fictionalized.

Edisto pointed one out, there were no other vitctims,2 I believe he got some ages wrong and names misspelled, as my mother pointed out and I believe her after all she is the family critic.

Who needs the press and media when we have mother.

Just to clarify, I didn't intend to say there were no other victims. Nor did I intend to say there were other victims. I'm far from an authority on the Short case. John Gilmore, the author of "Severed," seems to believe there was at least one other victim of Elizabeth Short's killer. That supposed victim was a young woman named Georgette Bauerdorf, who had a lifestyle similar to Elizabeth Short's.

I think you all have seen my quiz about Lizzie. I also have one about the Titanic and one about The Black Dahlia. This test was actually one of the highest rated quizzes for a awhile, but it dropped off over time.

Thanks, Allen. Your quizzes were fun. I got 100% on the Lizzie quiz, 17/20 correct on the Titanic (I, too, have always been a Titanic buff) and 10/20 on the Black Dahlia. I really don't know too much about that one.
