Dennis The Menace

Post by Kat »

This stupid storm is gathering strength and is so big (you may have seen it) that we are getting bad weather from the feeder bands tonight.
About 8:30 p.m. a tree branch fell on my porch roof. It's an aluminum roof so you can imagine the racket that caused!
It's pouring rain on and off. 20- 25 mph winds gusting to 40. I've been unplugged most of this night.
The storm dropped 11 millibars in pressure in 2 hours tonight. I don't think they've seen that before. Meaning it strengthened from about a 1 to a 3 in that small amount of time. There are tornado warnings for the next counties north of here. The eye is probably 290 miles west of here and yet we are getting this stuff.
Poor Haiti and Cuba.
I was wondering how our Atlanta members have fared after that "C" Tropcal Storm went through?

Hi Kat,

We got alot of rain and wind from Cindy, and now are going to get more of the same from Dennis. There were some tornados in the area, thankfully, I just had some tree branches fall and the power stayed on. It is suppose to rain all day here, lets hope it is not that bad when rush hour traffic starts tommorrow!

They say that the weather will be very bad all the way to Michigan in the next few days. This thing is strong! But lucky for Orlando this time is that it is headed towards Pensacola. And the bulk of the bad winds are very tightly wound near the eye, which is 10 miles across. I don't wish this on anyone, but I have to say I am glad that it isn't coming here.

Do others not directly affected follow this news? Just curious.

Now it is daylight I see I have more pieces of tree limbs down in my backyard. We are soaked here after 12" extra inches in rain last June.

Thanks for responding, Scott. I saw flooded roads on the news in the Atlanta area from Cindy- it looked terrible!

Where is Eugene? Are there any other Ga. members?

I don't pay much attention to storms in the gulf and atlantic seaboard, Stefani. I hear about them on the news but I'm not really tuned in like I should be. Unless a tornado has it in for me I'm not much into storm news.

I studied meterology when I was in Jr. High but my interest waned. We had a lot of powerful gale forced winds when I was a kid and 1" thick ice on the ponds in the winter but after just a few years of this the weather mellowed out. It was just a phase from about 1964-1969. That has been about the extent of my weather watching.
