Good news of every kind!

Post by Bob Gutowski »

And mine is that I have an audition for the BMI/Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop on September 6th! You may remember my mentioning that I'd submitted three original song lyrics a few months ago. I'm very excited. It's a free three-year program (they only invite you back for the third year if they love you), and you write with various composers and adapt various projects and moments from plays and books into songs. Sounds like fun, hmm?

In France, when wishing someone luck in an entertainment venture, we do not say "Break a leg"... Instead we say "mer*e"!

It is the same concept of break a leg...

I sort of have been wanting to say it to you anyway.....

That sounds great, Bob! What kind(s) of lyrics do you write? (Or is that more info than you want to give us right now?)

Wow That was GOOD, Bob! It had a lot of enthusiasm and wit. It also has "style!"
BTW: I also read and very much liked your piece from Scarlet Street, "Hollywood Gothic" review.
Thanks for getting me a copy!

Halloo, dahlings!!!

The audition was yesterday, and I won't know if I made it into the class, but it went very well. Down the line I'll give you a taste of the lyrics.

The panel told me they thought I'd brought in very good work, and the fellow who escorted me back to the lobby reminded me of the date and time of the first class - I thought that was a good sign...

I GOT IT!

I found out when I got home Friday after the theater. I had a cheery message from a member of the steering committee. The first class is next Monday, which means my last group therapy session is tonight (we'd been proceeding on the assumption I was going to be successful, so it's not a surprise to the other guys in the group). Still, it's going to be emotional.
