Well, folks, it is truly hurricane season here. I just downloaded the current Atlantic satellite image that shows not only Katrina, but the other two depressions that are lining up to come our way.

Looks like the beginning of an interesting month.

By the way, those who track such things, or wish to see our weather here in Orlando, here is the best site, our local TV site, that shows all sorts of images real time. The photos from Miami are quite amazing.

I hope you will be safe and sound. I have my best friend living there and I worry about her all the time. Now I know another person to worry about there. Good luck. I wish you well. I don't think I could live down there, but, then again, I'm sure no one envies my being so close to DC in this day and age.

Has there been any damage in your area, Stefani? They keep showing Broward County on the telly.

The storm hit at Ft. Lauderdale and moved across Miami-Dade area to the Keys.
It wasn't supposed to do that, but it saved a huge area of Florida- tho the areas it hit are highly populated.
There are still 1 million people out of power.
They did say that this area of the county had not sustained a direct hit since the 1940's.

It's odd too, because last year I think it was FEMA who paid out millions to the wrong people, and were requesting the $ back- yet that is approximately the areas hit this year.

We are in Central Florida- the place people evacuate to.

This morning when I was on the Fairhaven-New Bedford Hurricane Barrier during my tour at Fort Phoenix, it struck me that Fairhaven was hit by Hurricane Carol on August 31, 1954. This year, here it is only August 26 and we're already at the letter K. This has been one busy tropical storm season.

Fortunately we've had nothing reach us up here so far.

My prayers are with all of you during this weather-wicked season...

The naming of Hurricane began in 1953, with all female names. Since 1979, the list has alternated male and female names.

I know you are worried about my lack of A/C in my car.
I have it- it's just that I never used it and so it sort of seeped away.

We had off-and-on bad weather on Thursday from the feeder bands, but the weather has improved remarkably.
Tornados are always a threat during this kind of event, but so far the one over by the Cape didn't touch down.
You are more prone to those than even we are my dear!

11:00pm EDST Sunday--expected in New Orleans at sunrise. Currently 165 mph winds; expected 25-30 foot storm surge. That's called EVACUATE in a big way from a city that already below sea level.

It was only a category one when it hit Florida and killed nine people--now it is a category 5. Very scary!!!

I feel bad for those people. Also, the media has figured out this stuff is BIG TV and I think some are scare-mongering. It's too bad. I know the feelings that engenders. I notice FOX is bad about doing this.
Anyway, I can't stop watching it- tho I'm not watching Fox.

Drat! No Lizzie on the list.

As for me I stay away from CNN. They put it on 24/7.

I am a weather junkie and watch all the channels,
this one we will have to see after it is over, what
devestation it left. The Jersey Shore has a history
also of hurricanes, I just love weather stuff.

I wonder if Eugene will check in? There was a tornado warning for the Atlanta area.
Don't we have some members in the areas where this storm is headed?

the rain came yesterday evening -- about 5 pm. nothing worse around me though.

I hate hurricans, :cherry: no electric all day
