Most Haunted Search for Jack the ripper

I have been taping and watching the last three nights of the live version of Most Haunted. It is billed as The Search for Jack the Ripper. I haven't yet seen any reference to the Ripper case in any of the shows. Of course there is still tonight, which starts at 4PM and is actually live in the US for the first time (travel channel). Any ideas why the show is billed this way even if it is not about this? I am so confused!

(PS: the show has been really good so far, however, the live part of the studio stuff is tiresome and they frequently break for commercials just when stuff is happening. boo hoo)

Very odd program this. The person (or spirit?) they are discussing now was most likely Mary Ann ("Polly") Nichols, the first "official" victim of Jack the Ripper, deceased in Buck's Row, Whitechapel, 31 August 1888. (I'm confused too, Stefani!

I thought the first night (Friday) at 3 hours, was a waste of time. I only checked in every now and then after that.
The show itself, w/o the audience, seems very personal and immediate- but add that abrasive announcer and his selling spiel, and a big noisy audience, and it becomes mass *entertainment* and it loses it's effect.
I got the feeling these people investigating were performing, where I never had that feeling before. This marathon may have ruined the show for me. Hopefully tonight's JtheR investigation will resurrect my interest.

Thanks for the input Doug-Oh. I almost wasn't going to watch tonight!

Stefani, they briefly touched on Jack the Ripper in Saturday night's show when they were at the Commercial Pub. Basically all they said was the areas they were investigating were definitely part of Jack the Ripper's London. I think they had also said something about the police station across from the pub was where the officers who were on the case worked out of? I personally don't care for this big show thing they are doing with it, especially after they said it was one of the top rated shows in Britain, why grandstand? Hopefully the show tonight will tie together all the loose ends.

I did not care for tonight's show.
I saw the last 1/2 and then later the first 1/2.
(I got a LOT of trick-or-treaters).
Ooo the guest star walk-on mentioned JtheR and Yevette says "Shh!" Like they want to keep this place secret from the mediums? Puleeze!
The dog was OK but who knows if over in the corner his handler's not sticking pins in him to rile him up when it got too quiet?
Boring.
And the blooping of the swear words is very distracting!
Oh and my pet peeve:
Yevette pleads, "In all respect...," to the entity to show himself and when he doesn't she hurls abuse at him! Jeesh!

I agree Kat, what a waste of time! Here I thought that they actually would be going to somewhere in the Whitechapel district and conduct their ghost hunt there. Wow, the guy that was the host in the auditorium said it was like their 35th live show? And that he and Derek Acora would be leaving the show, don't know if I care for their new psychic or not yet.

Well, the coming attraction for next week shows them all merrily together again. So I'm not too worried that Derek will be gone from the show's broadcast here in the US for a while- our seasons of shows are way behind Britain's, from what I hear.

I will still watch the show, but this 4 night extravaganza was pretty bad. And how could it be *LIVE* when they could bloop the swear words?

I went over to the JtheR site late last night to see what they were saying.
They sound just like us. They want a documentary Ken-Burns approach to the case. They think this was a huge missed opportunity as well.
Sounds familiar.

Personally I found the dog distracting with his barking while they were trying to talk. Plus, the psychics said that the spirits didn't like the dog, almost as if he was driving them away. With that knowledge, why would you keep the dog around to only defeat your purpose? Oh, and what about Derek's findings about the Ripper being two men, Cornwall's painter (was it Sickert, what was his name?) and a Dr. Penda-something or other, what was your take on that?

I heard only a little bit on the Ripper.
I heard the names James Maybrick and the Dr. Pachenko (sp.). Both were already suspects.
The dog was gorgeous but his barking got on my nerves. He was so upset at times I felt it was almost cruelty to keep him in these situations.
I also heard Derek at one point say the spirit of the little boy in that pub was not even aware of the dog being there.
So, I missed too much to comment, except on what I actually saw.
