Thanks so much for your greetings. We had a restful family day and relatives over this evening. Lori and Em made me a cake decorated as Fort Phoenix with Drake's Yodels as the cannons and chocolate balls for the cannon balls.
Among my gifts was a brass-headed walking stick purchased at the Breakers mansion in Newport to go along with my 19th century costume for walking tours.
Seeing your messages only added to an already great day. Thanks!

Ooops, me too, I'm a bit behind here. Sounds like you had a lovely day, Chris. I haven't eaten a Yodel since I moved from Arizona, they don't seem to carry them here? Happy Birthday, Chris!

Audrey,
A Yodel is a small snack cake made of devil's food cake rolled up with a creme filling then dipped in a chocolate coating.
I'll post a photo of the cake later.

Yodels are pictured (on the box) at http://drakescake.com/ Auds.
As for Chris's cake, I have to wonder - is there anything left to photograph? Sounds much too tasty for that!!

Okay, so here's the cake. Please bear in mind it was decorated primarily by a five year old. It's Fort Phoenix. The waves of Buzzards Bay are splashing at the bottom. There are Yodel cannons, cannon balls and the wooden "Mother, Father and Daughter" colonial people that Emily used to play with at the fort. There's a tent to the rear.

There's only one small slice left today. . .

5 year old indeed? It is entirely enchanting. She did a spectacular job! Did you almost not wish to cut it?FairhavenGuy @ Mon Apr 24, 2006 9:33 pm wrote:Okay, so here's the cake. Chris-- You have a lovely family. I didn't expect your cake to be anything less.

Sorry I'm so late, Christopher. I just noticed the thread.
I hope you had a fabulous birthday! I don't suppose there's any kek left.
The cake is gorgeous! What a SWEET little girl you have!
I never heard of Yodels. Here (Detroit) we have Hostess Ho-Hos (now you can get them with caramel and whipped creme inside, or just the regular whipped creme. I ate a whole box of those over the weekend.). And we have Little Debbie brand "Swiss Cake Rolls". Around Xmas time they sell them with cherry whipped creme in them.
Your walking stick sounds marvelous! It sounds like you had a great birthday. Good for you! - Sherry
