Hurricane Jeanne

The latest weather report is that we are getting a direct hit of hurricane Jeanne. Our third. I expect both Kat and I will be once again out of power for some time during and following this one. That said, you probably won't hear from us on the forum for a while.

Here are two web sites if you want to watch the weather in our area.

http://www.wftv.com/index.html

Needless to say, the October issue of The Hatchet may be delayed. I will be sending out an email notice to all subscribers today.

Needless to say my prayers are with you and Kat and all those who are in its path. It's been a rough year already and you don't need this storm.

Please stay safe and try to get word out to us if possible.

Ditto to what Harry said. Our prayers are with you both. Don't worry about getting the HATCHET out...we all understand. Just be safe.

Tracy's right! First things first!

And I'm guessing that old adage"whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is pretty cold comfort right about now.

Take care!

Been watching the weather coverage on Jeanne and been worrying about you both. I hope this is the last one for a long time.

God bless you, 'girls' -
Sherry

Couldn't see Monique's pictures. Rats, I'll bet they were good ones.
Hey, your pictures just came up! Scary looking thing. Thanks for posting them!

Well, it was definitely a strange one this time! I never lost power! yahoo! Kat, unfortunately, has.

The winds were tremendous, with the rain coming in horizontally. For hours and hours and hours. I guess the first hurricane really pruned our neighborhood well, as we didn't have any explosions of transformers this time. It is eerie to have power, actually.

82,000 Orlando Utilities customers don't have power (our power company), this are only 160,000 in the whole city! The 160,000 is the number of people, not customers, so we were VERY lucky indeed.

Thanks to everyone who wished and wishes us well. It was another scary night and day, but both Kat and I have fared without any major damage. So far----it isn't over yet as we are still having wind gusts in the 64 mile per hour range!

I'm glad to hear that you girls rode the storm out so far. You and Kat are seasoned pro's by now. I'm not so sure that I want to go to Orlando this week.

Glad you girls weathered the storm and that at least one of you has power. Hope Kat's is restored soon!

I'm Baaack! Just got electricity 2 hours ago. No DSL. Stef got me hooked up to "Dial-up", just 40 minutes ago. (I can tell how long because the *clock is ticking*.) A tree limb down in back to match the one from Frances. Welcome to "FALL." And roof shingles down, but I can't tell where from.
I've got the A/C blasting now!
I slept in the hallway.
This storm was a combination and Charley and Frances!
I'm pooped!

Thanks Tracy- can't see the pics tho!

Hooray, Kat's back! Glad you made it through okay. Hopefully that will be the last one.

Jeanne has arrived here in the upstate of S.C. Heavy rain and some wind. Nothing near as bad as Florida. Some flooding expected.

Hi Kat ! Glad to know you and Stef are both OK ! The pictures were just a couple of little pictures of Mean Jeanne over Florida. I used the WFTV site and the Orlandoweather.com site to keep track. Hope you get your DSL back soon.

Harry...will you have to worry about any flooding at your house ? Whew...I think Mother Nature needs to take a pill. She's cranky...and needs a nap !

Thanks Tracy. I live on a hill so I'm fairly safe. Possible trouble from downed power and telephone lines but otherwise not much to worry about.

Lots of trees behind the house but they're a safe distance away.

The rain is pretty much over already.

Let's all hope that Florida has seen the last of hurricanes for a good while.

I can see the pics now, thanks! I saw that basically in black & white on my 5" diam. battery powered TV. It doesn't look the same as in color! Neither do the football players! They were teeny-tiny!

Taunton to the rescue!

Today's Taunton Gazette has an article saying that a crew of power workers from Taunton are on their way to help restore power in devastated areas of Florida.

Thanks for the link, Har!

The lady who works at my pharmacy has not power yet in Winter Park where she lives, and she said her neighbor across the street was so nice to let her run electrical cords to her house from their generator!
I've heard stories like this every storm!
Neighbors dropping by extra bags of ice they brought back from civilization for those in need.
The lady at our favorite restaurant still has no power at home either.
I heard on TV that we could not get help from Texas (nearest place with a lot of extra workers usually) because the I-10 bridge is still out to the west so that our next help would come from the northeast!

Today I noticed a "Boil Water Alert" sign up my street but I called and it was Seminole County water - my street but another county! That was close!

Don't know if anyone's seen this cartoon yet, I thought it was cute!

 Good cartoon, Susan! But why would they relocate between Minnesota and North Dakota, where they can battle head-high snow drifts and 40 below temperatures? I begin to think there's no place that's perfect: everywhere that doesn't get crappy weather gets earthquakes, volcanoes, mudslides, forest fires and floods. Guess I'll sit tight and count my blessings.

(I also liked the Letterman crack about the Florida debate: "Haven't these people suffered enough?"
