Filing for Probate

Post by Societygirl1892 »

Emma and Lizzie signed a paper the day after the murders stating that they were the sole heirs of Andrew's estate and left "no widow" as Abby died 1 to 1/2 hours prior to him. It was 4 weeks after the murders when Emma was made Administratix.
I don't know if the paper for probate was filed on August 5th, but to me, doesn't this seem a bit too soon to even do the paperwork given the circumstances or do you all think this was just Andrew Jennings way of protecting Lizzie and Emma? It just seems way too soon to me, and even though I had read this previously, for some reason it only struck me today (no pun intended).
I don't know much about legal stuff, but it states that a bond was placed for Andrew's estate by Mr. Almy, Mr. S. Stevens of Swansea and Mr. Joseph Bowen. What does this mean?
And why were there appraisers assigned to Abby's estate (Mr. Arthur S. Phillips was one), and not Andrew's?
