Gone, but not forgotten. I'll sure miss you, Butch.

So many brilliant performances-- "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Hud," and "Cool Hand Luke" faves.
AND-- such a generous, caring person.
(If I must reincarnate, I hope I look as good as he did.)

That's a shame. One of the true greats.

It is sad, but he died after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport; he was surrounded by his family and close friends. He was 83 years old.

May he rest in peace...

It seems like he was there thru my whole growing up!
This is surely a loss to everyone almost everywhere. The ending of a generation of good movies and good movie stars. Peace be with him.

You're right Kat, he always seemed to be there. It won't be the same without him. I knew a little boy who went to his "Hole In The Wall Gang" camp for kids with cancer and he had the best time ever. It really helped him out. Paul Newman will always be one of the best, not just actors but as a human being.

That's the thing about Paul newman that sets him apart from the rest. He was not only a great actor but he was an awesome human being. The man got it. He never let stardom go to his head and he always cared about his fellow human beings and valued life far above anything else material wise. He was unique and will be truly missed. The world is a little less brighter without people like him in it. Rest in eternal peace Paul, you have earned your place in heaven.

I think you summed it up very well, Steve. Paul Newman was the real thing.

I liked Newman in "Absence of Malice." The media was trying to get the dirt on Newman's character and their pestering cost his girl friend her life. He turned the tables on the media and gave them enough rope to hang themselves. It seems all of Newman's films had a lot of substance. I've not yet seen a Newman film that didn't have something important to say.

I liked the comment Newman made when a reporter asked him why he stayed married to one woman so long and didn't fool around: "I have steak at home. Why should I go out for hamburger?"

He was OK.

Years ago during an interview he was asked about his life and he said that if he had a chance he would like to start all over again with his wife and experience it all over again. I have loved him ever since for saying that.
