FYI:
Karen Chaney, the author of the Commonwealth series edition on Lizzie Borden, will be speaking on Wednesday, October 22 at 8PM in Salem at The True Story of Lizzie Borden Museum.
The title of her talk is: You Can’t Chop Up Your Papa in Massachusetts: Murder, Lizzie Borden And The Press.
This is an area that interests me and I would really love to see someone do a Lizzie talk! Leonard Pickel expects a good turnout. I will be reporting on the event for the next issue of The Hatchet and MondoLizzie.
The price is $20 and includes admission to the museum, snacks, and the talk. You can call the museum at 978-666-4416 for reservations.

Just got back from Salem and saw Karen Chaney give a talk on Lizzie Borden and the popular press. It was really good! I very much enjoyed her thinking here and since it is a subject I am especially interested in, found her findings quite fascinating.
I highly recommend that you go see her talk about this subject if she comes to anywhere near you.
The after talk discussion was illuminating as members of the audience shared their ideas with all. I met several people there who I think will be joining the forum in the days ahead.

Maybe Karen herself will come back.
Many of the details in her book were inaccurate and she could have done more research to check them out.
It can be very frustrating to some of us to have more inaccuracies on the case put into print. However, I don't think that she deserved the grilling that she recieved because of it.

You might nave to register, but this appears to be a link to the story in the Times, at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/26/nyreg ... kel&st=cse
I staid the night for shelter at a farm behind the mountains, with a mother and son - two "old-believers." They did all the talking...
