Does anyone know of a website with a tutorial on how to create PDFs?

Increasingly I'm getting requests to do them in my job. Of course, they won't pay to send me on a course, etc.

I've tried to find something on the web, but no luck so far.

Tina-Kate, why are you being asked to create them? If you're using a word processing program like Microsoft Word, you just go to the word "Acrobat" on the tool bar and choose "Convert to Adobe PDF." Simple as that.

In PhotoShop you can save an image as a PDF under the "Save" command.

With Abobe PageMaker (and probably InDesign) it's done using the "Export" command.

Most programs that you can create PDFs from already have that as an option somewhere within the program. It does the actual conversion for you.

T-K, you may want to try Open Office. It is a freeware program similar to, and just as good, as Micro$oft Office.

The latest version (3.0) allows conversion of documents to PDF and they claim it to be a simple process. It can be run on PC's, MAC or Linux systems.

My computer has acrobat reader. Does this mean I can I can create PDF files? I have many old books and magazines that are deteriorating and I need to do something fast. One of them is the October 1893 Delineator. I like to picture Lizzie reading it after her summer in Rhode Island as she adjusts to life without father and makes new plans.

Alas, no. Adobe reader only allows you to read PDF files.

To write them you need Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader/Writer.

As I wrote above the freeware Open Office software claims to do so. I personally have never tried it.

Some scanners allow you to scan a Word or Text document and save the output in PDF. How the output format would look I couldn't say.

Thanks Harry! I think I have Acrobat writer, I will have to check and see. My other question is the scanner itself. My printer has a scanner for copies and also a fax machine. Do you or does anyone know if I can scan the pages with this? Thank you for all your help. It isn't easy dealing with these modern conveniences!

That would depend upon the make and model number of your scanner.

I did find this site that offers a freeware program for conversions. Haven't tried it myself so I can't offer an opinion of how effective it is.
