Just got back from my JW Booth trip with forum member Mike.
When we got to DC the day before the tour he took me to Mt Olivet
cemetery and we found Mary Surratt's grave.
During the tour we were shown Dr Samuel Mudd's grave and back in
Cleveland Mike took me to Lakeview cemetery to see John Rockefeller
and President Garfields tomb.

Garfield has the most impressive tomb out of all the president's
outside of Lincoln's. His casket is above ground and NOT in a sarcafagus.
His wife is beside him in the same manner and his daughter and son in law are in erns at there feet.

Jeff, if you are interested in the Surratts you may want to consider joining the Surratt Society. I have been a member for many years. It takes no position on her guilt or innocence. Dues are a mere $7 a year and you get a monthly newsletter and discounts if you visit the Surratt museum in what is now Clinton, MD. This was the first stop Booth made on his escape route.

Please post photographs of all of your finds. Also Jeff....I think you may have a book in you that shows all of the gravesites you have visited, and a bio of all those who are at rest there. A great title for a book: Grave Digging with Cemetery Jeff! I know I would buy it!

Harry- I may join. The tour started at the Surratt tavern and we came back for a tour of the tavern after Ford's theater. They did the tour in order of how Booth escaped.

figure out how to send photos w/o a scanner. Thanks for the compliment.

Ok Jeff, I have to agree with Joe. That would be a great book. He's not the only one who would buy it. I would love to see the pictures too. Anyway would you consider bringing them when we all get together again?
I still haven't figured out the gremlin living in my email yet.

Garfield's tomb is impressive. The caskets are well cared for. I wonder if anyone ever peeked inside when no one was around ?
I went to see the Mt. Vernon graves when I was 8 ? Maryland/ DC history is fascinating. I went into the Octagon house way back when. The Beltway is so chaotic for me when I visit, but some of the cemeteries are great. Mt. Olivett had one crypt with the casket behind glass. The woman had a foreign name. Rock Creek Cemetery is cool, too.

Mt Vernon is impressive as well. I was just there last October.

I found another grave today in Boston. Gilbert Stuart is buried in a cemetery on the corner of the COMMON. He was an artist who painted
a famous George washington portrait. He made his eyes appear like they
followed you where ever you moved. His birthplace is in RI
