WAS LIZZIE'S LIFE IN DANGER???
When Lizzie went to Chicago in 1893 for the World Columbian Expo I wonder if she contemplated staying at this hotel or was anywhere near it?

SteveS, that's a interesting subject. We have touched upon it in the past.
See http://www.lizzieandrewborden.com/Archi ... TClose.htm
Holmes was quite a prolific killer. He was arrested in Boston in 1894 and one of the first to question him was none other than Orinton Hanscom. Hanscom at the time was on the Boston Police. He had previously been a Pinkerton man and became the Borden girls private detective on the case.
When Holmes was arrested they were not aware of his crimes, however, but there were warrants out on him. One in Texas for the "Larceny of One Horse" and one in Philadelphia for insurance fraud. He was shipped to Philadelphia.
We've not been able to find out very much on Lizzie's trip.

There was an hourlong program on H. H. Holmes on the Biography Channel, just this past week. Two of his better-known victims were a wealthy Massachusetts woman, to whom he proposed, and her female-relative/companion (either a cousin or maybe a sister).
Of course, this immediately brought to mind the Sisters Borden! Holmes swindled his fiancee out of her estate (she foolishly signed it over to him before they wed), and the two ladies were summarily "dispatched."
I got to thinking-- what if Lizzie had encountered him, and she had gotten to him before he could get to her! She would have spared many lives!
However, I doubt Lizzie was in the market for a husband, and she most certainly never would have signed over her fortune.
Moreover, she never would have stayed in The World's Fair Hotel (The Castle). It was far too seedy, which was part of Holmes's point-- to attract people further down on the socioeconomic scale, people who would be less likely to be missed.

Thanks Harry for posting that link to the 2003 thread. I didn't know that it had allready been discussed. I'm sorry. I wasn't a member then. Thanks Kat for posting the "murder castle" pic. I saw the enthusiasm Kat had about Lizzie attending this fair and the possibility she might have attended others. I was thinking the exact same thing. It was just creepy to me that Lizzie was at the fair while Holmes was doing what he did best. It just made my imagination run wild on what could of happened if there paths might have crossed at some point either in Chicago during the fair or when he was in Rhode Island pulling one of his insurance scams with a corpse or when he was in Boston at the time he was arrested. She could have walked right past him and never knew it. One known murderer and one suspected murderer.........just intrigues me.

Heavens, Steve, no need to apologize. It's great when topics like this are discussed. Just thought you'd like to see that thread.
It would have been an interesting meeting between the two. Makes us wonder what Lizzie thought when she found out he was there at the time of her visit.

That is amazing Kat, I didn't know that. and YES Harry, I loved reading that old thread link you posted. I was estatic to see I wasn't the only one wondering about the possibilities. I'm thinking strange things like if Lizzie really did kill her father and step mother then what would she, as a murderer, think about being in such proximity to another murderer and how would she feel about someone else that kills?

I suppose you are right Kat, but to those of us that don't kill, in my mind, a killer is a killer. But I guess there are varying degrees based on the hows and whys of the task. I was thinking it must be like a small (thank God) exclusive club to belong to, those who have deliberately and intentionaly taken the lives of an innocent human victim. I honestly wonder what they think about when they hear and read about another killer. I do think you would be right though Kat if Lizzie is guilty. She would think of herself as superior to most other "gutter" killers.
