Blizzard on its way

Post by Stefani »

Soon, very soon, the blizzard will be in Fall River. 12-18 inches, perhaps 24 inches are expected, with wind gusts 30-50 mph!

Photos of the daytime results will be posted on MondoLizzie.

Brrrrrr!

Yipes ! And I thought 8 inches that melt the next day were bad. I recall childhood, and having those dinky rubber boots. I would step into a snowbank, and the chunks would go down into my boot. My thin white Buster Brown socks would get wet. And we weren't allowed to wear jeans to school. The slush melt really creeped me out. And the worst of all : being hit with an iceball thrown by some knuckle dragging adolescent.

From the house I can't really tell how deep it is. Because of the wind, there is drifting. In some places there is bare ground showing, but in others the drifts seem to approach 18 inches or so. Still snowing at 7:30 a.m.

Fall River is reporting 24 inches of snow. It is still blowing and snowing, and we are still under blizzard conditions.

Folks are shoveling away.

The snow is as high or higher as the car bumpers. It is a sight to behold.

19 degrees.

I don't really know how deep the snow is; I just know I'm pooped out from shoveling. My backyard has almost no snow, but I could not open my rear or side doors from the deep drifts. I managed, with difficulty, to get my front door partially open so I could get out to shovel. It was only 15 inches on my front porch, but as I cleaned off the steps, I found the drift on the sidewalk in front of my house came up to my hips. After several hours of shoveling snow, I had to go out again and dig out my side porch so I can open the door...and it's still snowing!

Last Monday the federal government in Washington DC closed down. This is a thing seldom done, so we knew it had to be bad. Up in the mountains near Harpers Ferry we got two feet of snow. And, wouldn't you know it, the next day I needed to go to the hospital because I was having trouble breathing from the atrial fibrillation I've been battling lately. And Murphy's Law- we were not yet completely plowed out. My husband wasn't home and my son didn't have a four wheel drive, so my neighbor had to get me out of the neighborhood to meet him part way up the mountain with me so I could get to the hospital. It was horrible. I had a cardioversion which didn't work, so now I'm on tons of medication until they can do an ablation to fix my heart. Bah humbug!

Wow! So sorry to read of your troubles!
And I thought it was cold here!
I guess a mountain home and health concerns don't mix well! I wouldn't have thought of that.
