New Nance/Lizzie Play in NY

thanks for keeping me in-the-loop, tina-kate. I didn't know about it. The more I learn about nance and mckee rankin, the curiouser I find them.

Nance depended on Rankin as a career mentor/father figure. Apparently, he was a great talent, but he had no head for money & spent *their* money as fast as it came in. If they had an affair, it was probably short-lived. They seemed to have a great deal of professional respect for one another & that was the real staying power of their relationship. Nance got away from him eventually & seems to have done far better for herself in doing so. Rankin's biggest problem was his alcoholism, which eventually killed him.

Last night in my first session of The Lehman Engel/BMI Musical Theatre workshop: Librettists Division, I met a newbie who, after a few minutes, excused himself to check the NY Times review of a friend's play. The play was "Nance O' Neil!" I revealed myself as a Bordenian of long-standing, and he said "They could've used you a few weeks ago!" The Times didn't care for the play, but it has gotten some good reviews.
