Kat's Cocoa (Beach- that is...)

Post by Kat »

Right before visiting Harry, I went to Melbourne to visit my friend Mary who had a hip replacement on my birthday! She went to a nursing/rehab facility after surgery to get a big head start on her rehabilitation.

After making sure she was alive and well, and after hanging out for 5 hours, I went home via Cocoa Beach. We used to live there back in the early 1960's. I found the house on the canal, and only made 1 wrong turn trying to find it!
I had been on the street back in the late 1980's, but couldn't remember which house. Recently tho I found a letter to the State from my mother and that had the street number on it!

Wow! Have you ever re-visited a home you lived in from almost 50 years ago!?

Also, I went from the beach to the mountains in 8 days!

The picture of the sign for Cocoa Beach itself is for Sherry/Augusta. She loves I Dream of Jeannie!

Cocoa Beach view from this boardwalk. It was about 6:30 in the evening.
I did go wading in the water.

Now you all know what I've been doing all late July and parts of August!
Have missed you all here, tho!!

This is the epitome of a 1950's Florida home 3 blocks from the beach!

Our parents actually let us travel these canals without any supervision in our little yellow plastic boat! It is bigger than I remember- go figure!

That second dock, behind the lattice-work fence, was the yard to our rental house.

Another view, our Cocoa Beach canal.

This is about 7 pm July 26th, 2010. Ah! Memories!

A view to the east. We lived on a dead-end street and the canal wrapped totally around us, making us actually a peninsula- one crossed a little bridge to get on our street.

Those pictures look like paradise. I vaguely remember visiting Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral in the summer of '69 when we lived in Tallahassee. My Dad was taking summer classes at FSU towards his Masters. I read somewhere that tar balls have been washing up on the beaches there this summer, but it's unknown if they're from the oil spill.

I heard rumors of that, but it is not confirmed, as far as I can tell.
We have had a lot of jellyfish tho- but they have mostly been tentacle-less- which cannot sting.
The lifeguard told me that they once had tentacles, out in the open ocean, but shed them for some reason and are basically dead now by the time they've bumped into me in the water. (I do not like that!)

I also "heard" there was a bacteria bloom at Cocoa Beach back in July and people got sick, but it turned out to be food poisoning from a family reunion cookout!

I agree about "Paradise!"

I am crowing! I went to New Smyrna Beach today-November 10th!
It's the latest in the season I've ever gone.

I have Beach Web-Cam on my computer Bookmarked, so I can check conditions & when it is at least 80 degrees and sunny I head over there. It's about an hour drive, two-lane roads thru the back country- past horses and cows in pastures and over the St. John's River, and palm trees popping up all over the place.

I was the only one swimming! The water was 76 degrees.

A cool breeze meant I never quite got warm but the swimming was Wonderful! I am so addicted to pitting my strength against the big ocean waves, I don't know how I will go until next May without it!

You should see my arm muscles!
