According to the witness statements, Constable F.L. Edson (page 36 of my printed copy) along with Charles Bryant and officers Desmond, Medely, Conners and Quigley were given permission to search the premises by Lizzie and Emma.

They searched the cellar, chimmneys, sounded walls and floors-- after which they searched the barn, outhouse, under outhouse, yard, lumber and adjoining yards.

This search commenced about 10.00am and ended about 1.30pm.

They found no weapon or nothing suspicious.

Is it the opinion of the forum memebers that an exhaustive and complete search of that much property could be conducted in 3.5 hours?

I'm not sure the answer, but keep in mind the premises were also searched a few times previous to August 4th. It was also searched the day of the murders and on Saturday August 6th, lead by none other than Marshal Hilliard. The search on August 8th was the third search of the premises. They may have had a better idea of what areas to target.
