A Cat-less Kat

Post by Kat »

Well, my 19 year-old cat "Ah-So" passed away today. Now I am cat-less for the first time since 1970.
Tonight I keep hearing little noises- and when I used to say- "Oh it's the cat" now I can't say that anymore!

BTW: Her nickname was "So-What?" But after her mother and siblings passed away years ago, she blossomed and became much more interested in me!
She was a good friend! Adieu!

I'm sorry for your loss, Kat, it's always hard to lose a friend, especially after so many years. I've had cats as pets in the past and I've always enjoyed them, these days it's dogs and birds, so cats don't quite fit in. The best "cure" I can think of is a new kitten, whenever you're ready for it.

Sorry to hear about your furry companion Kathryn.

My mom always had birds and cats. It was always comical because the cats were always trying to get at the bird. She had one Siamese which would sit for hours just staring up at the bird. When her pets would die she would cry for days and swear never to get another. Of course I always thought the best thing for her was to look for another pet.......she refused.

So I would do it for her and surprise her with one......a cat, another parakeet ! I would make it plain to her that I could take them back, but she never let me and would ultimately insist on keeping them. I knew it was the right decision for her.

I know you probably do not want another kitty.........but, if you are unsure then the right thing would be to get another. Or perhaps a little dog. (No Chiwawas please)

I have always been a kat person......oh wait......I mean a CAT person. We always had cats. I love cats....their independence, freedom to come and go.......ask for love when they feel like it.......reject your advances when you try..........self reliance.....snubness.......

Hey, that sounds like a lot of the women I have known

Not trying to make lite of your loss Kat. Just trying to cheer you up.

If you ever consider a dog, and I know you had one once, they are lots of work, much more than a kitty. Also very needy, always begging, let them out they never com back, but unlike a cat eager to please for a small reward.

Now if we could only find a man with those attributes, eh?

Something tells me Kat may not want another pet.

Our family has had dogs and cats since I was about 6 years old. That house has not been animal-less in a long, long time.

Parts of the house were always off limits to the cats, doors had to be closed, and careful watch on the front and back doors so that no animals "escaped."

There is a certain peace that can come with knowing you don't have to take care of anything or anyone but yourself.

Personally, I must have a dog. Now that i have one, I am smitten. But that is just me.

Sometimes, the pets find us-- as in the case of my two kitties. One belonged to a deceased neighbor, and the other was "put out" in the yard when she wasn't even properly weaned.

My Grandmother used to say, "It's good luck for a cat to take up with you."

Well, I know it's just plain good. Hope it happens to you, Kat. How could you have that name and go feline-less, anyway?!?

I'm definitely a dog person too. My brother in Savannah had to have his yellow lab of 17 years euthanized over a year ago and is still not ready for another pet.

Kat, my condolences. I know it will take some time to get over.

Oh, Kat, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. We humans become so attached to our pets that when they pass away, it is no different than losing a human friend. I know you will miss her for quite some time.

Thanks you guys! I knew you all would understand, in all your personal, unique and myriad ways.

It's just too weird! I get home and look for her. I listen for her.
Even on the way home I'm still counting cat food cans left in the pantry- do I need to stop for litter? Just weird!

A few weeks ago I had to have my sweet 15 year old white german shepherd down and it broke my heart. (Her name was Angel- that's whose name I used for this forum and email.) I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a friend one has had in the family for so long.

Sorry for your losses both Kat and Angel.

It was a year ago last tuesday that we lost junior. . I decided to get more cats thinking that way if I lost one it would not be as hard to deal with. I don't know it works that way or not.

I was thinking it would be better to get more pets before the other pets pass on, that way you are used to them when the other pets go. Of course you never which ones will go first. Just because one pet is older dosn't mean he will be first.

I got Lizzie in January, the month after Junior went. I was in the proccess of getting another cat when Hiedi went in February, othewise I never would have got a cat so soon after losing heidi.

I got Rosa in March. It bothered me for about 2 weeks that Rosa was using Heidi's food and water bowls. I was going to switch them for awhile but then it stopped bothering me.

Sometimes I feel guilty when I call Rosa "my kitty" like I used to call heidi. But there are some names I had for Heidi that I wont call any other cat because I can only think of Heidi when those names come to mind.

What was god thinking of when he made cats?

I think he was thinking of us.
