I watched the clasic film 1944 "Gaslight" last night for the first time. A good show, although in the end I had to wonder what the police were taking him away for. It seemed ovious what he had done, but he had admitted nothing to the police and there was no hard evidence against him.

There was nothing to prove he had killed the aunt.

He was walking around in the attic looking for jewels but it was in his own ( wifes's )house, thats not illegal. The most they could have got him for was breaking into the niegbour's house to get into his own boarded up attic, but even that was debatable as they never found him in there.

Maybe I just look at things to technically.

It's been a few years since I've seen the movie, but you may be right about insufficient evidence for murder. There was a letter discovered in a desk, but I don't remember if there was anything incriminating in it.

I can't remember the details but they may have been taking him in for questioning. I recently saw 15 minutes of the first version but I like this Bergman film much better. Gaslight is the kind of film I like to watch on a cold, foggy winter evening with a cup of hot chocolate and bag of buttered pop corn.

Steve, I hope you're talking about home-popped corn!

On a recent trip to a matinee-- matinee, mind you-- with my niece, her popcorn (small), drink (small), and ticket came to twenty bucks. And, this is in a smallish city, not NYC or a major metro region.

Plus, I couldn't see well over the hairdo in front of me and the theater was too warm, with a crying baby no less.

Just made me appreciate Turner Classic Movies, Fox Movie Channel, IFC, all the more. Popcorn and drink: maybe a dollar--depending on what you imbibe!

Speaking of TCM, Robert Osborne has NOT looked well recently. I know he has taken some time off as of late. Hope he looks better when he returns.

$20.00 sounds about right! But, you have to admit that your neice is worth $20.00 now and then, isn't she?

Every time I buy anything over the counter I feel like screaming, "I just want to buy the snacks, not the whole theater!" They really get you! When I was a kid, Mom would make our hotdogs and buy our sodas and candy at the store then we would smuggle it in all in our pockets. We felt like spys on a secrete mission. The only thing we bought was the pop corn which was probably no more than 25 cents a bucket. Buckets were smaller then. Home popped is always best!

I noticed Osborne was having trouble with his speech months before he left. I hope he gets well. TCM has a lot of good stuff and I enjoy watching.

I just hate being gouged-- I'd rather spend the twenty bucks on the niece on, say, a nice seafood dinner at a nice restaurant-- then come home, pop the corn, and pop in a movie! She loves old Westerns and musicals as much as
anything, anyway.
