The Adams House in Boston

Post by augusta »

Here are two photos of the Adams House exterior, another place mentioned in Rebello's book as being a Lizzie destination.

The first is postmarked 1908.

The second is postmarked 1916. Someone named "Edith" is writing to Miss Lillian Benny of Concord, NH:

"We are stopping here we found it nearer the shopping district. Went to Keiths last night *, over to the Conservatory this morning. This life is getting on my nerves. Wish you were here. Love Edith "

* Keith's is a theatre in Boston.

Thanks for more, Augusta!

And, I certainly hope Edith was being facetious about her nerves!!!

Yes, if you played Vaudeville, the top two circuits were "Keith Time" and "Orpheum Time."

The Orpheum Circuit is referenced in the musical "Gypsy." If you were a top act, you might receive a thousand or more dollars a week-- for, say, twelve weeks-- for touring on the Orpheum theatre circuit.
