Hey:

I was sitting by the TV when I heard a name from the past.

Patty Murphy.

I'm sure there's a couple of people on this forum who remember Patty Murphy Day.

Patty Murphy, (boy or girl) was a kid who skipped school to go swimming and drowned.

When I was in high school we celebrated Patty Murphy Day by skipping school and going to the beach. (most of us just skipped school. Any excuse to skip school)

Though most did not skip, many did.

I just did a little research here in the machine to see what I could uncover about Patty Murphy. Found almost nothing. At least not about Patty Murphy the student. Was she/he a Durfee High School Student, a real person, or was the story just dubious folklore embraced by delinquent kids with the perfect excuse to skip school?

Has anyone heard of Patty Murphy day?

No?

How about MBhenty day?

Ah, yes Harry. I'll start celebrating right away.

Unfortunately Harry, that's the wrong Patty Murphy.

That Patty Murphy is a character in an old folk song, written over 100 years ago, and recorded by many and sung by............well, anybody after a couple of Pints to many.

There is no song written about the fall river Patty Murphy.

I'll need to ask some high school chums about it.

But,

That means I'll need look some up...............(?)

Nah! never mind. Best remain a mystery.
